|HMS Corsair||From the factory the fuse is near the unit but since I'm adding wire I can put it anywhere, but just curious, why near the battery? So I don't fry 4 feet of wire across the engine compartment? lol. Don't have the antennae yet but I'll probably end up with a 3' or 4' firestik. Still deciding on the antennae mount also, would like something near the center brake light but the driver or passenger taillight mounts would work too. I can have something fab'd for the center brake light pretty easily, if I do something there I'll need a quick disconnect to get into the garage, or if I do a taillight mount I'll need a fold over.|

+1 on not using the fuse box. clean sound is good sound.
what kinda antenna did you get?

|Jerry Bransford||14 gauge is fine. Regarding shorts, run the wiring to the battery using common sense so it is protected from any sharp edges and the OE fuse should be fine. Make sure to power the CB directly from the battery, not from the fuse box. That will give the CB the cleanest possible power so you will be less likely to pick up static, whine, etc. in the CB.|

Hey guys, gonna install my cb this weekend, it's a Uniden PRO510XL - anyway, I need to run power from the battery so I need to add wire to make it all there. I already have some wire but it looks too small, there is no labeling on the wire so I can't be sure of the exact gauge. I stripped both wires and the actual wire looks very close to what the cb already has, so it might just be that the insulation is different sizes. So my question is, does anyone know what gauge wire I should actually be using? and if I use the wire I already have that is very close, should I rely on the in-line fuse to burn first if there's a short? Thanks.
