Thanks zuki! Yeah, that was the look I was going for.

I'm glad I didn't either. I had looked into it, but I thought "what the hell" and tried to design something a bit different.

Hehehe.. Me too man! Oh damn I had such a good time!

My MML should be here today or tomorrow. I've got all the grade 8 stuff I needed for the front and I even got me some thread locker.
And you know... There is just something comforting about the smell of a freshly opened jug of SAE 40. I think it's the smell of dead dinosaurs that gets me all warm and fuzzy!

tiny terror If hadn't gone totally out, but the dang thing was howling like a wolf. I started thinking I was on Wild Kingdom.

Your water pump went out where? Did it go down to the beer and wine garden and not come back?

Your Jeep is awefully young to need a new waterpump... Any idea what caused it to fail?

Thanks pointy!

I got the headlight rings and the composite lights off eBay. They are both from an M151a2.

Here's a comparison:

I'm still waiting for some parts to be delivered so I can do the MML and what not... So I decided to finish up the "Military" transformation. But here are those pics I promised.

Hey ED, you need to get this book:

Lots of great information in it. All the trails that tiny, Cain and I have posted pics of are in it.

ccain I can't wait to finish wrenchin' on the Sarge! I've got to go back to the desert before it gets hot!
01-06-2009 03:20 PM
ExDementia I just ran that same trail, half last night, slept in the Jeep, then the rest this morning. I'll have pictures up as soon as the camera's battery charges.

BTW I'm pretty sure I saw your guys tire tracks at the many places where the trail dead ends. I could see the all-terrain tread pattern turning around right where I did haha.

1BLKJP well this is one of the picture threads I've enjoyed the most. I'm glad that all your hard work has finally paid off for you Chris. Seeing you smile like that has to make it all worth it.

nvr-enough Jeeps are looking good!

but round head lights...it just doesn't seem fair to treat a yj like that
i know i'm kinda into the yj/square lights look
01-05-2009 11:28 AM
ccain Thanks Doc! I'll do that!

Man, Unlimited... I loved that water crossing! Can we go do it again?!

Because the CJ grille is narrower and I would have had to replace the fenders and hood. This was the most cost effective and easiest solution. Besides, I like have a unique set up. I like to watch people scratch their heads and ask me what it is or (like I got the morning of this trip while at the gas station) ask me if it's a REAL army Jeep.

OK, here's the skinny on the round eyes the Sarge has now. I used the existing grille and took tons of measurements, made templates and took more measurements. I found headlight buckets that flush-mount (they are called "Bug-Eyes" and are designed to be mounted on a VW bug with a Baja Kit), found some 2 1/2 LED turn signal / parking lights on the site that start with E and ends with Bay, got some 12X18 sheet metal from Lowes and bought a couple of round sealed beams at the parts store. With template in hand I set out to cut the blanks used to cover the area where the squares were. I unbolted all the old stuff, covered the sides of the grille with my newly cut and pre-bent blanks and (get this) pop riveted the blanks in. The rivets give it a nice military feel and... Well, I tell you what... Tomorrow, after my new M151 headlight bezels come, I'll post up "close-up" pics of the whole thing.

Although it was fun to keep it a secret and see who noticed first!
Why not just swap in a CJ grill?

distortedtj Ok, I'm not going to bed yet but all that ^^^^^ sounded pretty cool in my head.
