Freeman park is always good fun - it'll cost you 20.00 for a day pass - South end is also awesome and has better fishing, less drama etc... I believe its either 5.00 or 10.00 for a day pass there. Downtown Wilmington is big fun - historic carriage rides, great restaurants, raw bars (Shuckin Shack) etc.... there's a garage deck off of Market (next to The Shuckin Shack) thats very easy - first hour is free and additional hours are 1.00 per. Or you can park in the neighborhoods but it will be a little bit of a walk - takes me about 10 minutes to walk downtown.

eton Good deal, replacing the spark plug wires did wonders for my rig!
07-22-2014 11:05 AM
1987cherrypie Great news!!!! Took the cap off today and all te spark plugs and wiped everything down. Cranked her up and she was idling at 800 and I switched the headlights on and there wasn't even a hiccup in the rpms! So must have been an issue with moisture in the distributor cap or one I the plugs. But, of course I found some wires to be replaced (exposed and burnt) so off to tracing and repairing those now hahaha
07-21-2014 05:48 PM
1987cherrypie Alright well when I get off work as long as it's not raining I will go take it off! Thanks again
07-21-2014 05:47 PM
Islander10 No the pic will not help, any moisture under the cap is what eaton was referring to.
07-21-2014 05:34 PM
1987cherrypie Also thank you guys so much for the responses! The wrangler community is amazing!!

1987cherrypie Attachment 1323297

I don't know if this helps but I just ran out and took this picture. I'm new at this so I'm not sure what I'm looking for...
07-21-2014 05:20 PM
Islander10 X2 what eaton said. Rain shouldn't make a diff, if cap wires and coil are good. Yea I agree auto zone isn't my go to place lol. But short of just replacing the ICm that's about your only option.
07-21-2014 05:20 PM
1987cherrypie The PO told me that the spark plugs had been replaced with k3 and the distributor cap had been replaced as well. Are you thinking that water or moisture got under the cap? If I take it off is tree something I should look for?
07-21-2014 04:56 PM
eton How's the distributor cap look?
07-21-2014 04:14 PM
1987cherrypie Yeah I'm gonna head over there tomorrow and have them check it. Even though a lot of threads I've read say the autozone tool usually says it's all good and then they end up replacing it and the problem is resolved.

Also, it stalls even worse when it rains, any ideas??
07-21-2014 03:07 PM
Islander10 Some auto zones will test your ICm for free with the station they have to check alternators and starters. But not all of their employees know this so it is just hit and miss. Sorry but there is no home test that I'm aware of.

1987cherrypie Well I will start by telling you what I know is no longer stock in it and what has been done to it which might give you a little better understanding of why i'm lost. New BBD carb, new gasket, cat has been removed, possible nutter bypass, and the PCV system (according to mechanic) is very "custom".

So I had too much engine pressure so it was spewing oil everywhere which I think I alleviated by putting a breather oil cap on. (oil has stopped leaking a lot)

The most recent issue is she is stalling randomly, when I start her she turns over but idles at 500 for a long time then I give her gas and she will idle at 1000 but at an occasional stop sign or light she stalls. And two days ago she was idling and I turned on the headlights and she stalled, I cranked her up again hit the lights and stalled again, this kept happening over and over.
I have checked the fuel filter and there was no blockage, and I checked quite a few fuel lines and they had no blockage.

I think the stalling issue might be due to the ICM??
Also I really want to figure out what hoses I need and what I can eliminate from the PCV system so I can make under the hood not look so crazy!

I can post pictures if need be....

eton I'm no Rock star mechanic but I'm always willing to help? Yj's often have vacuum issues....from my experience. What's it doing?

New wrangler owner looking for advice and info

Hey guys!! I am a very recent wrangler owner (1987 4.2L). I have run into a few issues with the wrangler already haha! So it has lead me to eagerly wanting to learn about what's going on under my hood. I'm not very mechanically knowledgable but I am a quick study! I'm just curious if there is anyone in the area that knows enough about older yj's that would be willing to help me understand what's going on under the hood.

eton Looks like lunch at LeCatalan...

Jedi The meets on thursdays at flaming amys have been pretty much over with for 2 years. There still some guys that meet on the weekends, every tuesday at various places or the old crowd who used to meet every thursday now meets the first and 3rd friday of the months at breaktime. I tend to hit the northend every weekend but the past 2 or so I've been tied up working on customers rigs and havent been able to make it
06-22-2014 05:59 PM
MikeLisa You can also drive out at Fort Fisher. The south end of the island.

Dawn10 I will be in Carolina Beach/Wilmington 7/5-7/12. I've been told to go to Freeman Park. Anywhere else I can drive my Jeep, hang out, swim and catch fish? We have relatives near there but I rented a condo on beach. Wavey Can't wait! I usually go to Carova so changing it up this year...Thx
06-22-2014 09:33 AM
eton Made room for the top....if anyone is bored enough and in Wilmington I could use a hand getting the hardtop off! I'm gonna go and swap doors so if anyone is in the monkey junction area and can throw an assist that would be awesome!

Sadly I don't! Once I make room in storage I think I'll be able to make it work! Cool TJ by the way!

eton I don't know if people still meetup there or not - We go to the Shuckin Shack downtown Wilmington Thursdays often - anyone interested in that? We also frequently go to the N end first and then head over to Shuckin Shack - If we're just doing a steampot or oysters the one in CB is always fun - but if we're gonna do the char grilled oysters the one in ILM is the option cause the CB place doesn't have them!
