i figured it out last night. the security torx hold the housing for the iac onto the throttlebody.
the actual aic sensor and electronics are in an attatched deal that just has two standard torx.
once i figured out that it was gonna take a pimp hand to break free the locktite, i got it right off.

|Jerry Bransford||The torx bolts that hold the IAC to the throttle body are standard torx bolts, not security torx. You'll find a security torx-bolt on a few locations on the rollcage but nowhere else on the Jeep that I'm aware of. But you don't even need a security torx adapter to remove a security torx bolt. The little pin that sticks up in the torx opening is brittle enough to be easily snapped off with no more than a sharp tap or two from a punch pin or screwdriver and hammer.|

|98TJ||Could be wrong but I think the torx bolts with the nub that you speak of are what they call "security" torx bolts. They are designed so that a standard torx will not take it off. They should sell the security torx kit at Advance or other local auto store. This I know because i worked there and had some guy asking me about them for a newer ford vehicle. They supposedly made those bolts for certain areas of the vehicle that the manufacturer didn't really want the consumer to be playing with. Don't know if thats true or not, but its what i was told. Just an FYI...|

Off Subject...sorry..new here...
How can I find how to disable my '08 GC's DVD player from turning off the picture when the vehicle is put in gear? I hear there are kits available. What are they called & where can I obtain one? Is it illegal for the owner to do this? Thank you.

Concentrate the spray into the slot in the inside of the throttle body next to where the IAC is mounted. That hole back inside there is what the IAC controls the air flow through so if you don't have a torx-adapter so you can remove the IAC, cleaning its opening in the throttle body throat with a good aerosol throttle body cleaner spray may do the trick.
If you decide to get a set of torx adapters, as jpdocdave says, get a quality set like Craftsman from Sears. Then make sure to hold it square and firmly into the screw head since the screw will be tight since it is held by Lock-Tite and you don't want to accidentally strip the torx-bolt head out.

ok cool. and yeah thats the smallest freakin torx bolt ive ever seen, and ive never seen one with a pronounced nub right smack in the middle. im not even gonna mess with taking the iac off if i dont have to.
is the passageway to the iac open with just a sensor in there, so if i sprayed a bunch of brake cleaner in the passage it would release most of the crud?
i really dont have the ballz to strip out these tiny rusty torx. and yes i do have torx sockets and torx drivers, like i said ive just never seen them with the little nub.
my wifes intrepid uses torx although not as much as these jeeps lol.
bare with me, im learning.

ok, the aliens are called torx bolts. torx sockets would be a good investment. don't buy the cheapest ones though, craftsman is minimum.
you are cool spraying, scrubbing, and spraying. you don't have to let it dry long, the purpose of brake cleaner is to dry quickly with no residue.
and go get the gasket, not worth the hassle, don't rtv it and don't make a gasket. its not worth it when there's a weird problem you can't figure out later.

throttle body cleaning
my cel is giving me a iac code. i was going to pop off the iac, but it seems its attatched by some sort of alien bolts. little stars but with nubs in the middle.
rather than buy a special tool and strip them out, i just took off the entire throttle body.
its really dirty anyways so i think ill benifit from cleaning the whole thing.
i have a toothbrush, a rag, drip pan, and brake cleaner.
my question is.. can i just spray the shit out of this thing, scrub the hell out of it, spray it some more, then let it sit for overnight to dry out?
i have a heater i can run on it to dry it out a little better, and im going to set it where all the fluid drains out of the canal for the iac.
also i was going to take the electrical housings off, but someone used locktite and they arent coming off. brake cleaner = electrical cleaner so im ok right?
and lastly, theres no throttle body gasket. i have some rtv gasket maker. should i go spend the 3 bucks and gas to get to the zone, or just make my own gasket?
