krisbman leave it black, if you do a color change your into the jambs, underhood area, inner fenders, you get my drift. if its straight , no dents and only minor scrapes and scratches its not a hard job for a painter to do. to save yourself some $$$$ tell your girlfriend to take everything off the jeep that she can, then you follow her and take off all the stuff she leaves on(everything). this will cut down on R&I time alot. i think around $3000 to have this done is fair. or you could sand it yourself, dont let the girlfriend help, then take it to an Earl Sheibs or Maaco and have them spray it for you. ya ya i said maaco, dont laugh. these guys can put paint on a vehicle, its all they do all day, probably atleast 10 cars a day. just my two cents worth, i am a painter by trade, and have worked in the collision industry for 16 years and im doing restorations/ customs now.

Moabrubi How deep are the scratches? Have you tried buffing it out? A quality paint job is going to cost $$$$. I have seen some terrible repaints, dirt under the clearcoat, wavy clearcoat, paint running, etc.

Abnmarine I've been considering repainting mine the same color too. I've painted several cars before that turned out really good. The base here has a paint booth that I can rent. The rest is just materials and my time. If done, I'll keep it the same color since the Chili Peper Red is the fastest color on a Jeep.

philk i painted my 98 black 4 years ago, pulled it all apart, replaced the decals, i ran an autobody shop at the time, took a painter, a bodyman an myself 10 hours to just pull it apart, sand it out prep it and paint it, put it togeather the next day, i wrote an estimate on it to what was done, 3200.00 for the job. i did paint everything, bumpers flairs, mirrors, but also gravel guarded many of the parts, an accross the frt of the hood, grille, fenders, rockers, ect. i would no change the color, your vehicle will be worth less, and to do the whole vehicle a color change i would add 1500.00 more to the bill, just drive it its a jeep, you want something pretty get a another one an leave it in the garage!

Daginni Thanks for the replys.

The Girlfriend and I got to talking after reading the replies. We agreed that keeping it Black. I still kinda give a longing look to those Orange Jeeps. But a Black Jeep still is a very good look.

Girlfriend still wants a design for it. I hate the search function for this site, but I'll see if we can find something apealing.

MarkGLHS wranglers are easy to re-paint, compared to most other vehicles, because wranglers are small with relatively little surface area, compared to say a grand cherokee for example. if yours does not have big issues with body damage or rust i too would guess you could have a pro re-spray it for around $4,000 and get a really quality job done for that money. you might even get a sort of decent ho-hum re-spray for closer to 2 grand.

skip the color change and stripes, keep it stock, you will thank me when it comes time to sell it.

solman It all depends on the ammount of repair that needs to be done and the level of quality that you want, for an average 15 year old vehicle that has its share of dings and surface rust if you want a nice looking black paint job you will be looking at spending in the neighborhood of $2500 - $4000

2004Columbia I don't think stripes would look good on a Wrangler.

I also have a big scratch in the moddle of the hood of my 2004. Mine is a Columbia so it's red with graphite wheels and fender flares. I'm going to paint the center of the hood graphite following the natural body lines of the raised part. I'm also going to paint the part of the doors with the door handle graphite again following the body lines.

TJ Restorative Paint Job questions.

So, my Jeep is a few years old, and it's showing signs of off-roadings past when it comes to the paint. Stratches all over the place, certain focus points are exposed and prone to rust. Some might say stratches are a good thing, I say otherwise.

I am looking to do a restorative paintjob to it, keeping it's origonal color (Black), or if my girlfriend has her way, we'll get the thing repainted Bright Orange which I think is more a interesting color for a Jeep.

Now, I am not going to do it myself. I don't have the skills or the facilities to do it myself. I've seen a few spraypaint Jeep nightmares that make me want to gag.

I am looking at the proffesionals to restore/repaint it, and I am asking those who went a simular path what they paid in the way of pricing, where they went and what exactly did they have done.

Also, girlfriend wants to do "something" on the lines of a design on it. If I keep it Black, she wants two White Strips going down the center of the hood. Seems like a cool idea in theory, but I am sure it'll look terrible. What designs have looked good in Jeeps that you guys have seen, and what hasnt?

Overall, I use my Jeep to go to work, and my girlfriend wants the thing to look respectable when we're out in town. Off-Roading has been toned down a bit, as the area I currently am in is Urban and Off-Roading areas are 3-5 hours away
