Gearhed Been wanting a Jeep YJ since the early 70's but got into wrenching and racing muscle cars instead. We did some crazy things to VW Bugs, TJ's and pretty much anything that had wheels but I always wanted one of the 'new' Sahara's.

Finally I've gotten tired of muscle cars and switched to two Jeeps...it was stupid luck to find the first one and 10 days later trip over the 2nd one so one modded muscle car was sold (kept the garage queen) and now having to get used to opening a hood - and seeing an engine.
The body on each one needs minimal work (no rust!) but everything under needs to be rebuilt, sometimes I shake my head at what the previous kids were thinkin when they dumped money into the 04' YJ. The 89' is just because I want to clean some stuff up, both were just over 110K miles so there isn't much to undo but a lot to be done just because on a Jeep, you can.

Jacqui Growing up, I always noticed makes and models of all vehicles on the road. My mental game was to see if I could name each make and model on the road around me. Wranglers always stood out to me as a fun vehicle. When I started training as a massage therapist in 2007, I immediately noticed one of my classmates had an old lifted YJ and I rode with her many times. She was always passionate about her Jeep and had a great big smile every time she was driving it. I always had a blast riding in it, so my interest in Wranglers grew once again and I was always eyeing my coworker's YJ and my patient's TJ Rubi in the following years.

In 2010, I bought my first car. I needed something economical that I could fit all my massage equipment in. Enter my Alien green 2010 Kia Soul +. I loved that little car. But then, I got married. And the man I married had always dreamed of owning a Wrangler. We started calling out "TJ... YJ... JK... CJ!" whenever we saw one on the road. Made it a competition to see who could spot them first. We also started frequenting this forum, researched for months to decide what exactly we wanted. Started seeing some LJ's around and they grew on us in particular. We made Jeep hunting on craigslist a fun hobby, and one day, our LJ Rubi appeared. We knew we had to take it home. Can't imagine ever going without our LJ, now that we have one!

GoGetEm1994 It caught my eye more then any other vehicles on the road. I love how nearly everyone doesn't refer to it as a car or a truck, but a JEEP !!! Thought that was rather unique, so once I got my license I went out and searched for a Wrangler, and then after patiently waiting I got mine! Plan on driving one for the rest of my life. No one in my family has one or ever had one, I hope to start a trend.

Beachcomber I wanted something to take on the beach and always loved the looks of wranglers. Now it's the only thing I drive when I'm at the beach house even when I'm not going fishing.

Chadd388 My first vehicle after getting my license at 15 was an '86 CJ-7. I beat on it until I got a sportscar for graduation. About 4 years later, I was bitten by the Jeep bug again, and bought another '86 CJ-7, dumped a bunch of money into modding it, then got burnt out again. Ever since the TJs came out, I've wanted one, but never seemed to be financially able/willing to pay that much for a "toy". My brother got a '93 YJ a year or so ago, and fueled the fire again. I picked up my '06 TJ after looking for about a year to find one that fit my criteria, close enough, at least. I must say it's good to be back. I've always been into 4x4s, though, and have always had one, other than the sportscar and a couple of trucks.

Off Pavement Working Girls and the Ring Of Death is a blog I wrote for our local paper about how I learned the best things in life are dirty. It's got some other info you might find interesting too!

cork1958 I got into my Jeep because wife didn't want me to buy a muscle car, 5 years ago, or so.

Figured Jeep was just a "different" kind of muscle!! Sold Jeep a month or so ago though.

Have a 1966 Plymouth Satellite, for my muscle vehicle now!! Didn't drive Jeep in snow (I know, how dumb is that) so not being able to drive Plymouth in snow isn't any different! Actually, didn't drive Jeep in winter because it was just in to good of shape to run it through all the salt the lay on the roads around here. Have just about always had a winter beater car to drive then.

beaker I used to ride bikes with friends in the desert and one of the had a CJ. I loved driving that too. Always wanted a Jeep of my own and finally got it 4yrs ago. Loving it and my two kids love it too. They make fun of their dad's "barbie car" and tell him they need to "mom up!!"

Elbo The first thing I drove was an old flat fender pick up when I was a kid. So I guess its in my blood. That was around 58 years ago. I've had a number of Jeeps over the years from a 43 Willies to my current 97 TJ

bandman 40 years ago and I'm like 8yo, my Dad and I are driving at night and a jeep is coming towards us and I commented about the headlights being so close together, what is it? Dad says, "must be a jeep nothing else looks like that". I was hooked.

Jtaylor1129 Always liked jeeps and off roading. I bought my first jeep at age 14. An 88 beat up XJ paid $400 it was primer grey. No doors. Fuel pump was rigged to a toggle switch. But it ran and had new 33s on it. Ever since then iv been hooked. Iv owned 10 vehicles since then. 7 have been jeeps. 2 XJs a CJ7, a ZJ, a YJ, and 2 TJs. and the wranglers have always been my favorite. Nothing beats taking the top of and riding around.

mrpotatohead The first vehicle I ever drove out on the road was my dads friends brand new '03 Rubicon. It was 10 am and they were too smashed to drive back to the campground so 14 year old me was shuttling around two piss drunk Nam vets. I put the top down so I didn't have to smell all the PBR. The top down experience blew my mind. I was hooked.

banjer1982 I also have an 04 TJ but I have a CJ5 too. It still needs some work but I love driving that thing.

Heuster The whole family has jeeps so when the wife took over the Chevy 2500hd. I got my buy my toy. 06 unlimited rubicon. 3" zone lift with 33s falken wildpeaks.

TeeJayBurton Not really sure why I am into Jeeps. I played with a Hot Wheels Jeep (believe it was a YJ) as a little kid. Just got my first vehicle, an '04 TJ Rubicon. I plan to drive a Jeep the rest of my life!

RufusT No idea why my phone typed in "absurd" so many times...
11-30-2012 10:21 PM
RufusT I grew up in a pretty conservative household, so we didn't do any offroad driving or anything like that... I always wanted a wrangler - they just look tough. I owned a number of different cars, but thought about a jeep every time... Even though I still had no idea what a jeep really could do...

Earlier this year, a friend bought an xj and lifted it 4", then put on 33" tires. I asked why absurd said "I will show you Saturday". We went out off road absurd was hooked. 7 months of searching and I found my 1999 white tj sport. Bought it two weeks ago!

We are going out tomorrow!

Vinman In Dec 1996 I walked into a Chrysler dealership to buy a brand new minivan.
Came out with a new 96 XJ, not sure what happened there

Been hooked ever since.

i bought my 1st jeep back in 97 (white 94 YJ)...ended up selling it & then later missing it & getting another. 15 years & several jeeps later, i'm on my 7th & love it. hope my son likes jeeps too. he can spot them when we are driving around & i love it when it yells out "JEEP!"

Rolly32 Why lie? I only got into jeeps because this was my first daily driver. I picked up my 2003 jeep tj sport with the 4.0l with 60k miles on it, an automatic tranny, and cold A/C for $4k and was paid off. I originally wanted a 2002 camaro with t-tops so I can build the motor and have a quick street car but camaros down here were going pretty pricey. I caught a break with my tj. When I started driving it, I decided to take it offroading with some buddies who had lifted xjs. Ever since then, I have been hooked.

Indy900 I blame my parents.

Growing up in the 70s and 80s, my dad had 2 different CJ-7s; my mom had 2 different SJs and an XJ. I was given a YJ in '89. There was always at least 1 Jeep in the driveway growing up.

Moabrubi Always liked Jeeps, went offroading in a Tacoma on occasion, then decided to finally get a Heep. I never thought I'd get into the rock crawling thing, now its all I seem to want to do. Why must Jeeps be so expensive.
