I mainly want to look at the perches (weld on and not the cast in ones)

|Ibuildembig||If they are leaf sprung fronts with 5 lug, they are out of an extended cab and thats what you want. I bet most of them will have the ears either welded on (75-77) or cast into (78-79)....you can't use the 78-79 at all very easily.|

So it seems I have quite a few leads on D44 and 9" from people I know on other local forums and a few buddies of mine.
But, nobody can tell me years they are from.
Or type of ford other than "oh half ton"
How can I idenify them?
Also I have a gear setup friend. But, where's a good source for gears that has good products, price and doesn't have a outsourced underpaid employee half ass production of the gears?

I'll be doing a junk yard build.
Most likely I will stick with my underpowered 2.5l until it bites the dust.
(That's always my plan. That makes the engine last longer. Gives them something to prove)
So until that time comes cost will be minimal.
My plan is to collect cheap finds and find deals. Not just go buy everything and pay out the nose.
As far as coils go.
If I wanted that I would have got a TJ.
As far as the purpose of this rig...
Simply to make me smile. :-D

Unless you're going to air shocks or maybe coilovers then i could see justifying linking, but i don't really see any reason to swap to a linked suspension on regular coils.
If you think you can't make leaf springs flex or ride nicely then that's just being ignorant. When you can get springs for 13 bucks per corner and they flex and ride the way mine do, what reason would someone have to pay for links/coils?
I'm not trying to turn this thread into a leaf/coil debate as we're discussing axles, maybe the OP will chime in and justify his reasons

If your spending thousands on a full rig to repurpose why not get the best suspension for the money?
Coil/link really isnt all that expensive if you can do the work. Coming from coil link to leaf i see why i want to go back

Too bad you dont have 8 lug axles or you could run H2 rims or recentered H1's.
With all those mods why not switch to a better coil/link suspension.

Some home built tube fenders shouldn't look funky covering those extra few inches at all.
How wide are those tires?

Here is my 95 on D44 front and Ford 9in rear on 36in tires, the flares are the 6in ones and the tire still stick out a couple inches.

to the original poster, if you have wheels with the right backspacing, you could possibly still tuck the tires in with no wider than 6-7' flares...and still have decent turning radius

|darkproximity||The desirable years for the front 44 half ton is 76 and 77, 73-75 will work too but come with drum brakes, so a knuckle-out swap is needed to have discs.. 78 and 79 are cast in wedges and can't be removed.|

to the op, if your front d44 is old enough, you can cut the "wedges" off so you can put your spring perches where you need to, i believe its 77 and newer that they were "cast" into the axle, prior to that they were welded on.

4.56 gears & rear locker for new axles if they dont come with them or 4.10
Roll bar tie in kit
Beef up rear roll bar
Home built tube fenders & front bumper
HD boom shackles (little-0 lift)
Axle nic nacs
C-4 or C-6 Floor shifter+stage 1 or 2 shift kit w/ cooler
Dual cats into one "quiter" muffler maybe stock v8 type
Traction bars (anti wrap)
Mustang or ford racing wiring harness+ecu
Engine nic nacs (intake headers filters hoses ect)
Large high heat transfer radiator.
Rebuild or upgrade engine parts. (Heads, port intake, cam ect)
Selectable lockers if not done already
Rear bumper w/ large tire carrier
Sub-lime paint (mopar or match)

As its angled back. Do you notice if it handles rough trials better. Like bumps and small holes.

When setting up the front axle we were more concerned about caster angle than pinion angle btw and we mocked it up accordingly.

How much axle work did you need to do?
Or do the perches line up good?
That's gives me an idea.
I wonder what 6" flares (possibly flat style) would look like with 2-3" spacers or block between the flare and fender. Painted black and cut to match the flares contour.
Btw I have a machine shop I can use when business is slow.
