whuskye Thanks for the information, I'm going to contact my jeep dealer to see if they can fix mine and also look into why my parking brake didn't work. The parking brake was applied, but the only thing I can think of is that it wasn't pulled all the way up. It did make a screech gear grinding noise as it was going down the hill and there was a smell that the dealership told me was probably from the brake fluid. Not sure though, the Jeep dealership I had it towed too wasn't very knowledgeable about jeeps, they seemed to be more interested in the Fiats on the lot.

Little_Foxx I can remove mine also, I thought it came that way so if you had the middle console or glove compartment locked you could easily just unlock it without having to shut your vehicle off. I kinda like mine like this because when I'm on the trails the constant bouncing around of my keys get annoying so I just pull it out and keep on wheeling!

silver rubi You shouldn't be able to remove it when not in park.. saying that, I have had 2 times when the key wasn't all the way in the ignition some how and I was able to take the key out with the engine running....so... Don't know if that helps you... Emergency brake?

Key release

Does anyone know anything about the key release for an automatic 06 TJ?
Should the key be able to be removed from the ignition when the Jeep is not placed in park?

My key is able to be removed from the ignition even when it's not in park, and I'm pretty sure that's not supposed to happen. This proved problematic for me earlier this week when it rolled down a hill . I'm thinking it wasn't fully engaged into park but I assumed it was since the key was able to be taken out. I'm not finding any information about it online and thought I would see if anyone had the same issue. Any information would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
