|flattietj||everything i have read points to the fact that you have thought of many ways to strenthen these....the design behind the steps you have is pretty weak and over time whether welded or not will flex under the weight of a human.....some sort of gusset going fromt he step to the frame would take some of the flex out of the steps.....i would make sure it is welded solid|

I could mount it the way you said but i would have to drill out the hole for the steps larger so that i can fit the sleeve through it then put the bushing on.
I wasnt sure if i drilled that out if it would make the steps weak.

|Jerry Bransford||That's a pretty ugly way of mounting steps, are you sure the mount doesn't go up on top of the bottom rubber bushing? Is it narrow enough to fit up into the frame-mouted body mount bracket and on top of the bottom rubber bushing instead of underneath it?|

|Twozerofd||My 04 had them when i bought it, they flexed a little. they were the first thing i took off and sold on ebay. most likely welding them will give you the most study mount.|

well there are steel sleeves that stop me from pushing the step all the way to the body mount plate. The only way to do that would be to drill out the step mount plate large enough to fit the sleeve inside it so i can put the bushing on the bottom of the step plate.
I just know there are people out there with these and wanted to see how they had them mounted without any flex.

Mine are bolted on with no washers; no flex. they have been on since 1997 and there is no rust.

well i paid 20$ for these. So i dont think they can beat that price.
Any ideas on getting rid of the flex?

finaly snapped a pic of how it mounts. Any ideas on how to get rid of the slight flexing?.. was thinking if i drilled a bigger hole in the mounting plate i could fit it over the metal sleeve for the bushing

the set i have doesnt mount to the frame though. They have plates that use the existing body mount bolts.
I would much rather rock sliders but my wife stared in willy wonka and needs a boost to get in....lol 5'1"

|Jp90Talon||Just installed my set and I didnt feel like drilling into my frame so I welded them on. At 6'1 I dont have any issue getting in but my 1/2 pint gf needed to get a running start. Sad thing is that I havent even gotten around to lifting it yet. Anyways they are on there real good now and can even use them as jack points now!|

|jgano23||i hear a lot of guys saying they weld them on instead of bolting them. i'm not a big fan of the side steps, but if i were to put a set on i'd get them welded.|

tube side steps
So i picked up a set of the tube side steps for next to nothin and threw them on.
As i was bolting them on i noticed that the bushing would only on top of the step as the insert for the bushing was bigger then the hole in the mounting bracket for the step.
cranked em down tight. result is when i step on the step it flexes down due to the rubber bushing.
