JKJeepit here's a few maps of the area.
Rio Puerco Clockwise - Offroading trip | EveryTrail
this route into the Rio Puerco is not to common
we usually go in the way we came out.
there is also a few ways in further North.
to the OP, you don't need lockers on everything. it is good if you know how to use the breaks to gain some traction on some area.. there is a bypass to most obstetrical's.

sorry I don't have pictures attached to all of these.
EveryTrail | EveryTrail

mild to wild.... there's a lot out there.

lots of postings - local virtual jeep club at NM off road dot com

bchambers1956 No pics yet, but I can snag one tomorrow. I drove it the other day to get parts at work and had a little time to kill. ( our parts truck was out of town and I was in a hurry). I figured what the hell and jumped off in some open space on the way back. I had already talked person about buying it and taking it off road just re inserted the bug . You know how it is. I live SW by the way.

bchambers1956 I sure cant wait to join you guys. I have about another month before I pick up my new old jeep. It's a 89 with a 4 banger. I didn't think I would like it very much till I took it off road. its by no means my first Jeep. I've had 4 before. But this is my first 4 cylinder. I think it'll be just fine.

Rio Puerco

I would like to go with someone familiar. When up on the sand dunes, i looked for a way down. Only saw one way and not sure if it is big enough for jeeps or just for bikes. Be great to have someone lead us. Just got my jeep in september.

I've done the dunes at the end of Southern, but I wouldn't dream of trying to do Rio Puerco myself. Or pretty much any trail for that matter.

Relocating To Albuqierque in January

I'm relocating to Albuquerque in January, and am looking for someone (or a few someone) to take me out and help guide me through Rio Puerco once I get out there. I've done the large dune right at the end of Southern, but haven't done any of the other obstacles.

As a side question, are locker required/recommended for that area? Or are there ways past the obstacles that require them and still have a good time?
