Well guys heres what happened.
I told the dealer about my concern about the rear breaks and the leak. The manager said he would bring it in and havenhismguys take another look at it. I went there today and had another look at it. Well just was looking for the leak I found it. It was, leaking from the back side of the power steering fluid jug from one of the fittings. I couldnt tell if it was really bad or not but it is leaking.
I checked everything else out again and well....... I am the pround owner of a new to me Jeep LJ. I purchased it and am happy so far. Im going to go pick the jeep up tomorrow after I hear back what they find about their inspections. Im hopping they will fix the leak and I will be happy. I cna do the breaks if need be.
I am so pumped. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and advice.

|Jacqui||If the dealer doesn't address the brakes and leak, then that becomes a bargaining point. I would drive the price down on that. And if the OPDA is going bad (not surprising), check to see how much it costs to replace that and throw that number at him. Once we started a list of things we needed to replace on our LJ, we got the dealer to easily drop the price by $1,000. Maybe, if you make the dealer realize he has what many would label a "problem vehicle" (one that requires work), he'll be desperate enough to drop the price drastically just to get rid of it. He has already been sitting on it too long as it is.|

Thanks guys, You all have very valid points. I talked to the manager about checking into the breaks and the steering since I consider these thingsto be safety related. I mentioned about the oil pump and told them I didnt consider it their responsibility. The other things are part of the safety though and should be his responsibility. He said he would have his mechanic look into the breaks and steering leak. Im going to takeit anyway, Like you guys said. Im still a bandit.
Thanks for making me feel better guys, I appriciate it.

|Eddie2005unlimited||I say keep it and fix it. You got it for a great price. It's a nice jeep!|

|6InARowMakesItGo||considering you got that for about 5 grand less than most people pay for an lj i think you still made out like a bandit.|

Take a look at the parts yourself. If they need to be replaced, talk to the dealer or replace them yourself. The brakes are an easy fix, the oil pump is even easier. If the power steering is leaking, figure out what is leaking and fix that. It is a jeep....SUPER easy to work on.
Have the stuff checked out to put your mind at ease, but the problems listed by the other party (if they are valid) would not be a reason to deter me from the purchase or the high of getting something that I have wanted. Just my opinion.

Ok guys, I am on a few jeep forums and this just happened. The gentleman that did not purchase the jeep found me on another forum and this is what he said about the jeep.
(quote him) Hey guys, I am the other buyer that "bailed", this is just a warning if you can back out still, I would in my opinion do so. I had the jeep at my mechanic in Charleswood, (when you must have thought it was sold) and the OPDA/CPS distributer in the unlimited is in terrible shape. as well the power steering has a very bad leak. rear brakes are almost gone.. but the brakes are not a huge issue. anymore questions feel free to pm me. I made an account JUST to tell you.
(quote me)Thanks for letting me know about those things your machanic found. The OPDA I was going to change anyway. I dont think there are many 05 or 06s that dont have this issue and I dont think the dealership would be looking for this issue since its not part of the safety of the vehicle.
What has me worried is the rear breaks ( even though its not hard to change breaks) which are essential to saftey and the leaky power steering.
I forgot to ask if it comes with a warranty.
I can stomack the OPDA for the above reasons but the power steering leak I am more concerned about. Even though breaks are easy to change the manager told me that if the breaks are 50% woren they change them right away.
What do you guys think I should do?
I had such a high and now Im not so much in the air.
Let me know what you think now that the situation has changes.

They must not have advertised that LJ very well. Here in Southern California, that would have sold within a week, easily! My husband and I spotted our '06 LJ Rubi around 3 am. We drove two hours to check it out and drove it home a few hours later after talking the dealer down to $16000. Apparently, the only reason it hadn't already sold was because all the interested buyers lacked the credit to drive it off the lot. We lucked out.
$12.8 with new u-joints, front brakes and rotors? Comes with a hard top?? Looks very clean. You got a great deal on your LJ. The hard top alone is easily $1000 to buy used. I usually see people trying to sell them for closer to $1500. Subtract that from your price paid and the Jeep itself is a steal. Congratulations!

To tell you the truth I dont think the dealership knew what they had on their lot, not to mention the fact that most people dont look for jeeps at a subaru dealer...hee hee.

|crazykosmo||Wow, I should have come to Canadia for my LJ Anyone know if those heated seats are factory?|

Guys, you wont beleive this. I got a call back today and apparently the other guy bailed on the jeep so I got a crack at it. I went down at lunch and took it for a test drive. I went to the floodway and almost got it stuck. It was so funny. Man I love that engine with the 6 speed. Its way better then the 3.8 that I test drove in a jk rubicon. So the manager let me see everything about it. It was on their lot for 95 days and he just wanted to get ride of it. So I told him, could we nagociate a fix in price for the fan blower. (The second position didnt work). He said that he would take off an additional $200 and fill the tank with fuel. I said sold.
I cant believe it. Im a jeep man now after so long. This is my first jeep.
I dont mind telling you guys what I paid. I got it for $12.8k.
How do you guys think I did?
They replaced the front two brakes and rotors and. u joint to get it saftied. I think they were just rusted from sitting so much.
It has command start, heated seats and a usb charger......for some reason......
It does come with a soft top but Im not sure all the peices are there.
Im pretty pumped. I thought forsure I was going to buy brand new.
let me know what you guys think.

|jrussblues||Lj's came standard with a trak-lock or trash-lock in the rear. They are garbage.|
|12-14-2012 08:23 AM|
|DBoat||I think the only reason my stayed on a lot for a few days was because it was on an Audi lot. Not many Jeep buyers looking there for one.|
|12-14-2012 08:12 AM|
They had a second one that was gone a day or two later. If you really want one, check it out and snag it ASAP if it is sound(ish).

|DarthLEGO||Had my 06 LJ as my DD. Off roading is in my future Love it. Buy that thing!!!|
|12-13-2012 06:35 AM|
I own an '05 LJ.
I couldn't be happier.
With a moderate lift and aggressive tires, it's a capable offroader.
|12-13-2012 06:31 AM|
|Eddie2005unlimited||I have had my 05 LJ for 1 month and love it.|
|12-13-2012 04:37 AM|
|friedfish||In regards to the front Dana 30. Like others have posted before me it's a good axle. If your really concerned about wanting a Dana 44 up front. I would do a "super 30" kit. It upgrades the diff to Dana 44 guts. Which is really what a rubicon front axle is. Just a Dana 30 with Dana 44 axles in it.|
|12-13-2012 04:23 AM|
I just picked up my first Jeep, an 05 LJ with 29k with both hard and soft tops. So far I'm thrilled with it. Lots of cargo room with the back seat rocked forward, and tons with it removed. My Great Dane is loving it compared to the regular cab truck I was driving. Trying to talk myself in to paying it off before lift/rims/tires but that's probably just not realistic
Are those heated seat buttons I see??
|12-13-2012 01:39 AM|
I love mine. Same year, but lower miles. Mine is a daily driver but I still wheel the hell out of it. I also run the 30 up front with no problems. I even have selectable lockers on both with gears and 35s. Runs like a champ on and off road.
Get the LJ, you will love it. The first upgrade I vote for on that one is to get rid of that chrome grill though.
|12-13-2012 12:08 AM|
|Tait||Agreed - I love my LJ! The extra length and cargo smooth out the ride without hurting offroad capability (at least for what I've been on).|
|12-13-2012 12:00 AM|
Almost seems too good to be true, I find it strange that the mileage is listed in km. Hopefully everything checks out.
Edit. I'm on my phone and didn't see the dealer is in Winnipeg. Conversion rate would probably only tack on a couple hundred bucks for us here in the states. Great find.
|12-12-2012 11:13 PM|
|beetle||that seems to be a smoking deal especially with the km's on it. looks good from the pics as long as it checks out in real life! If it was around when I was buying mine I'd scoop it up in a heartbeat.|
