|stonewall_jeep||sorry to resurrect an old thread but i'm here in rochester specifically charlotte, check out ling road by lakeshore hockey arena in greece next to the train tracks there's a nice little trail i take my girl down in the summer gets pretty muddy in the summer, don't know about the winter haven't been back there yet|

|Bjwith97tj||Yeah, I bought a 98 blazer for $600 and traded it for the wrangler. I do know you shouldn't use 4wd on dry pavement. I have an 88 K-5 Blazer, a 99 tahoe 4x4 and I just sold a K1500. The thing has death wobble from hell. The rear end is kind of off on its own. The bolt for the track bar at the frame is worn and has play.|

If this is your first Jeep, get used to it while on the road first. Make sure everything works like the transfer case shifter. Get used to the feel of that as it engages and dis-engages. Get used to the feel of the Jeep while in 4WD. Shift into 4wd while going straight forward and let off the pedal a little as you pull it into 4WD. Same goes when you take it out.
Try NOT to use 4WD on dry pavement. That will cause driveline wear and tear on it that you don't need. I try and put it into 4WD at least once a month to make sure everything is working.
Did you say you got this Jeep for $600? That's a steal!

Did ya get any answers yet? I may not be THAT knowledgable but I am pretty good at wrenching and fixing things. NOT a Welder though but know a few that I trust.
Looking at the second picture it looks like this Jeep has been wheeled off-road. If I were you I'd take the time to go through the diffs, drain them and look at the color of the diff fluid. Take the covers off and clean them up well and then re-install. I'd probably also look over the transfer case and drain and refill that also.
If you haven't do it yet, get a creeper and get underneath it and look at the brake lines and hoses, the condition of the frame, knock off any mud and see what is underneath that. Could be areas of rust there.

Need Help In the Rochester Area!!!
Ok, I just got a 97 Tj. The thing is a trashbucket. Need someone that knows a little about jeeps that could maybe come check it out and tell me how bad it is. Or if you know how to weld and can help teach me to weld and maybe do a little fabricating.
