I was wondering though, would reducing tire width by an inch help much?

|Mitchness||The steering stabilizer is only there to absorb sudden reverse feedback from the steering. It won't solve DW, only bandaid it. Many on the board don't even run with a stabilizer, myself included, and have no problem. Just as stated you need to maintain your steering/suspension components closely. Luckily it seems you've found your problem though.|

Turns out, when I put the wheels back on(after painting them), I must not have had one seated to the hub just right.
Anyway, I remounted them & I could tell real quick that it was handling better. Took it on some of the roads that I knew would make it wobble & it did just fine. But I did order a new single stabilizer for it.
So, I posted this so maybe someone can learn from my silly mistake.
Oh, I'm not putting the track bar back on either.

I took the Jeep to my mechanic today. He's a younger guy, 25ish. He owns a lifted truck with 40s for tires & he's experienced DW too.
He says everything is in good working order, except the steering stabilizer is weak. He recommends a new dual steering stabilizer & putting the front trac bar back on. He's not selling me the parts, so he has nothing to gain. I have bead loc wheels & by some things he said, I got the impression he didn't want the hassles involved in balancing them. So they didn't get balanced.
So now I'm really confused.

Dont forget it can be also caused by improper caster angle, and incorrect toe.
Oh and only tjs get deathwobble lol. Dont forget that.

|mdaz75||I had it horribly! I thought I was going to die if I exceeded 50mph. After replacing all leafs (with a 2.5" lift), shocks and all new tires, I'm good to go. 70 on the highway, nice and smooth!|

I put it on stands so both wheels are off the ground. They(both wheels) aren't loose up & down, but from side to side, there's about a 1/2" to 3/4" play. Your right, I can't see much from that side of the wheel.
I grabbed the tie rods & tried to move them by hand, but everything felt tight. :shrugs:
I guess I'll make an appointment to have the wheels balanced.

|87yjman||having leaf springs you just need to put the front axle on jackstands and shake the wheel to check for loose parts. loose up to down is hub or ball joints. loose side to side is tie rod ends or drag link to pitman arm on gearbox. a buddy to watch helps as it can be hard to shake the wheel and look to see whats loose. and 4jeepn is right you might have a slipped belt in a tire. look them over good 2|

|4Jeepn||Well the good news is there are less parts to check on the YJ... I would start simple and swap tires from to rear and see if that helps at all, in addition to of course looking things over.|

But I do have DW. Luckly it hasn't happened on the highway. Cause at even 30 mph, it's purdy scary. Feels like the front wheels are gonna go flying off.

Do I have this straight, about death wobble?
I've read a lot about DW here, I just want to confirm if I have the facts right or wrong or I missed something.
DW is not caused by removing sway & trac bars.
DW can be caused by, bad ball joints, bad tie rod ends, unbalanced wheels & tires. Did I forget anything else?
I have a 91 with 4" susp. lift & 2" body lift.
I appreciate any input, cause I know this subject old.
