Hey guys, I just got the 23-piece Quadratec Exclusive Gorilla Spline Kit with locks.
I notice the base is significantly narrower than OEM. Is this going to compromise holding the wheel on the axle?

|Ltblue||Before I just have two sets of the Mopar wheel locks(two different lock heads) and I just recently got the Gorilla 23 piece acorn set. Basically I'm going to put 3 different locks on my tires. I'm gonna paint the Mopar one's to match the Gorilla's lol.|

Yep. Vise grips will do it. Hammer & chisel will do it. 12 pt socket will do it.
I've done it.
Put those pieces of junk in a zip lock bag & use them as a shot put.

I bought the smaller diameter Gorilla lock nuts to fit my Rugged Ridge wheels. I bought the set of 20 and a set of 5 so that all of my lug nuts are locking. I bought through Summit Racing after first calling Gorilla to get their dealers list. You have to order through one of their dealers to get them to set it up with Gorilla to match the sets. I wanted the special socket and lug nuts to match for all 25 so that I can carry one socket in the Jeep and keep one in my shop. That also leaves me with two spare lug nuts, as I only need three for the spare. They must have a mistake in their catalog, as the set of 5 with the socket was way cheaper than it should have been. I could have ordered 5 sets of 5 with 5 sockets for way cheaper than the set of 20 with one socket, but I didn't want to cheat them.
I just put my stock wheels/tires on for the winter. I use one locking Mopar lug nut on each wheel for these, along with the stock lug nuts.

Or an air hammer! I have had to do that for so many customers over the years that buy a used vehicle, and look no key.

I know mine certainly wouldn't. I didn't purchase my Jeep with Gorilla locks, but when they swapped the chrome out for black like I'd asked, the Sidebiters wouldn't accept the stock lugs. So they threw the gorilla set on instead, but forgot to tell me, and forgot to put the key in the Jeep.
I figured it out a week or two later when I went to pull the spare off to install the bump stop extensions. That was fun trying to figure out which key I needed. The service manager wasn't very happy with the tech that did the wheel swap, but we finally found the right one after a few tries.

I bought these wheel locks I had them on my TJ and it's impossible to get them off with out the special keyed socket that is included I'm the set there approximately 22 on amazon

|NFRs2000NYC||Yea, you don't have the "locks" but rather lugs that have a key. Gorilla locks are not going to come off with a socket.|

All my customers get Gorillas on their vehicles. I use # 91187bc fpr the lugs and 71681nbc for the locks.
I just opened a package and walked out in the shop... they do not come off without the key.

I'm not too happy with quadratec. The Gorilla splines are fine, but I when I emailed them to ask if these were security locks, and if they can open a box and check....they responded simply that they were not security locks. I almost went with the Mopar ones instead.
a: They were wrong. There are indeed 5 security lugs and 18 non security lugs.
b: Clearly taking the time to open the box and look at the product they are selling was too much work.
The plan is to keep the lug key in an underseat lockbox. That would make getting my wheels pretty much a waste of time. But I really don't think a thief will spend too much time going after stock Sahara wheels.

|mcgee10||You must remember thief's are clever, they know your wheel lock key is in your jeep. So hide it well. Mine is in a small metal box screwed to my frame rail. My spare has spline locks and a kryptonite cable lock and a surprise they can't see. You need to make it as hard as possible for them to steal from you. So they skip yours and move on to a easier target. Nothing in my book worse than a thief.|

Luckily, I have stock Sahara wheels...so I'm not sure if there is a big theft ring for such wheels anyway.

+1 to the 5 spline acorn kit from Quadratec. Comes with one locking nut per wheel and a key to fit them. Just for kicks I tried to remove them with a regular socket set and the tire iron. I also tried lock grips and various pliers. They all slipped off or couldn't grip. The kit comes with a key code if you lose the original and I'm pretty confident that one of these per wheel will stop most thieves. They'd need to carry some serious hardware to get the locking nut off.
The one thing I didn't try, but think might work, is one of those sockets with multiple pins inside which are supposed to fit all sizes of nuts. Maybe it would get enough grip in the spline key slots to spin it off.
Regardless, I feel safe enough with the gorilla 5 splines installed.

Hmmmm....when I get mine from Qtec I'll have to test them out.
If they can be removed without the lug key (via socket).....they are going back.

|Bumbleyeep||I used to work for Discount tire and Gorilla offers spline lugs that aren't technically wheel locks. Just because they come with a Gorilla key doesn't mean they are wheel locks. I have a set of wheel locks on my jeep. They don't have splines. They look like a bulky acorn nut and towards the base is where the "wheel lock" part is. I'd go to your local tire store and ask for a set of wheel locks. Not spline lug nuts. You'll see the difference right away|

They are NOT all locking nuts only 5 of them are !
One for each wheel and one for the spare.
The rest are just regular acorn nuts.
One good thing about the normal gorilla acorn nuts
is that they are a one piece nut. Your stock ones are not !
Stock ones have a chrome covering on them.

I have these acorn nuts with locks on my Jeep that I got from Quadratec. Should I be worried now that the locks can come off with a regular socket?

|G-Mike||^2. Even with the Gorilla splines nuts there are 2 versions, a 6 spline and a 5 spline. You can buy a 6 spline socket at any auto store; the 5 spline is only available with the key code through Gorilla. The 5 spline socket will remove both the 5 and 6 spline nuts. The QTec set includes 18 6 spline and five 5 spline nuts.|
