|NAVYCHIEF||if all else is good, try cleaning the terminals on the power control module. over time crud builds up and then all quits. my next door neighbor had an intermittant "it just quit" problem for some time. cleaning has had him back on the road for quite a while now.|

|1992 Renegade||Well new reman. distibutor is in and all is well. Changed the oil and used a magnet to try and get the metal out. Drove it 10 miles and pulled the dist. and gear looks good i'll pull it again in 200 miles and see how it looks.|

I fail to see how that would help the chewed up gear on the distibutor but thanks for the advice on testing the CPS.

|punkafi888||pull your crank pos sensor and get a multi meter and test the resistance on the two wires. use a magnet to engage the sensor.|

Yea I hate to buy parts from the zone and the boys. This dist. was bought from a local auto parts store that I deal with because of the above Cam gears looks good. Have to wait until monday to see how this get handled.

|jpdocdave||i've seen a couple distributors do that, and the cam was ok. hopefully yours is. shine your light in the hole, and look at the cam gear. gotta be careful where you get reman parts. not saying i know where you got it, but autozone and discount parts stores are getting worse and worse. its like rolling the dice with them.|

|1992 Renegade||Well I just pulled the dist. out and it looks like the gear on the bottom of it is chewed all to hell. I put the engine on TDC and did not like how much the rotor turned(over a 1/4" of play) so pulled the dist. . Oh what fun!|

|spazinweasel||the crank pos sensor is on the bellhousing of the trans i dont know what tolerances are on it though but it sounds like it might be bad not sure on how to test the dist either search online is all i can suggest here|

Coil is new. I really think the reman dist is the problem just need to know how to test it.

1992 Jeep 4.0L died this morning
Ok my 1992 Renegade 4.0L 5spd 180,000 miles on it died this morning after only running for about 3 minutes. I was having a running problem about 2 months ago replaced spark plugs dist. cap and rotor spark plug wires fuel filter and cleaned the K&N air filter. I also replaced the crankshaft sensor and all was fine for a few weeks until the pick-up in the Distributor died I replaced the dist. with a remaned unit. The Jeep was running fine for the last few hundred miles until this morning when it died like someone turned the key off. I towed the jeep home and have 35-40 psi of fuel pressure but only have spark for about a second or 2. So the question is does anyone know how the test the dist pick-up AKA cam position sensor on a 92 Jeep 40.L or have any idea what could be wrong.
