Timberline i was also questioning this same bumper earlier today but I was looking at the combo package which included the XRC-8 Winch for $500

4cylToy Im going with this bumper. It has nothing to do with the brand. I just love this bumper. If a company could build one that looked like it but better quality, i would be all over it. I hate the stubby look, because it doesnt protect the tires at all. I like this bumper because it almost looks like a basket for the winch. Add lights to it and its awesome. I knw quality with suffice. Luckily I have insurance if I'm in an accident. If I damage offroading, then its my own fault for putting my jeep in a position to do damage. Its your jeep, be unique.

Few months later I did some dumb shit while talking on the phone moving my jeep on my street. Let out the clutch and slammed into a 95 Honda civic rear end. Broke his tail lights and pushed his trunk lid all the way to his back window. Just scratched my bumper pretty good.

It gets worse. Few weeks after that that kids mom backed her scion tc into my jeep. Damaged her trunk lid pretty good and another scratch to my bumper.

Bottom line, I understand what every one says about smitty and why. I would probably not have bought the bumper my self. I'm more a fan of the stubby looking bumpers and bumpers where my winch would sit down in the bumper. This was on my jeep when I bought it. I just cant say its crap like every one says. I've also hit trees on the trail and winched my self and others outta some nasty shit. My bumper has been great in that way.
Awesome post! It was nice to see some positive comments about a smittybilt bumper. I have the classic tube with hoop bumper in textured black. I love it, it gives my TJ a classic look.

Modestmar97tj I was 100% going to get the smittybuilt stubby bumper too, untill i saw the JCR stubby bumper. it seems like its built with better quality at a decent price. check it it out! JcrOffroad, Inc. Wrangler Front Stubby Stinger Winch Bumper (CJ YJ TJ)

srad600 Yeah, I have seen that thread on here and luckily I did not have that happen to me, and That's the exact spot the Silverado hit me. I was stationary, he was doing at least 30-35 speed limit was 45 but he wasn't to speed yet.

This should take you there

staud11 Poison spyder has a trail stinger going for around $209! The only thing is its not pre powder coated but I think you can add an extra 30$ for them to do it!

corey2491 This is about what I expected, but thank you for everyone's input. I'm not a hard core mudder, my jeep is my daily driver as well. Therefore, I feel that it should stand up for what I'm doing. Any thoughts on a Westin though?

srad600 By the way weekend....that's not the same bumper.

Rubicondon53 I saw one on the trail not too long years ago, The welds were broken on one side after bumping a large root hidden in the mud..

The only one I've really looked at is the src front bumper and it had full welds.

I like the look of it and the price. Also found a Westin that looks the same for about $40 less. Anything I should be wary of?

Rubicondon53 If people would just quit buying smitty junk, then smitty would either go out of business, or quit exporting to the USA.. But if that happened we'd all be sad, cause there wouldn't be any more smitty to bash around anymore...
12-07-2012 06:38 PM
TJspeed There is a reason why smittybuilt has the nickname shitty-built.

Randens Rubi Poor smitty, they get such a bad rep sometimes, sad but true. TJspeed is correct.

TJspeed The last time I looked at a smitty built bumper in person it was poorly made. Simple little tack welds and not full beads. I know smitty is chinese bult. I'd stay away from it.
