jupiterboy Let’s HOPE he decides to take it off. lol

If we could get Ron Paul in his ear, maybe that would help. But honestly, if someone really did throw on the brakes at this point I seriously fear that America would be over because the base population would literally have to flee. There's always the chance though, that everywhere else will be as bad as here. The pessimist in me wants to put my bets on mobile homes, coal, and private prisons.

jupiterboy Yes. That is about right. But this is because the world bank and international finance system are calling the shots. It is a head game and the people have stopped spending. The worst case scenario for power is to have civil unrest and dissolution of centralized power.

It doesn’t matter how true a shot you are if you are locked on the wrong target. Venting over this event is a distraction from the issue, which is that we are inflating the money supply exponentially. This has historically led to hyperinflation and currency collapse. Put simply, a sandwich may eventually cost as much in dollars as this inauguration because of actions we have and are taking.

IMO the fix has been in for a long time. Every economics graduate in the last 15 years has been trained to believe that debt is a non-issue. How did that happen? Maybe the same way the leading author of the textbooks that set the standard for contemporary economic theory also ended up serving for Bush as economic adviser.

When banks call the shots banks get the money. If you are a good cheerleader for the banks you get a big party. So let’s feel smug while we complain about the cheerleader du jour, because to focus on the real problem would mean we would have to face how little control we have and what would be required to change the situation.

4point Is Obama a cross dresser named Frankie.....
01-24-2009 01:18 PM
tiny terror So, since accolades would not have been give appropriately, country be damned, spend spend spend. And, since we've already spent ridiculous numbers on the banks, we might as well continue. Frankie figures she spent the rent money, so she might as well spend the water money too. Screw it.
01-24-2009 01:06 PM
jupiterboy No one here suggested we deserve a bailout that I know of either, but to complain about the cost of this event in the context of the number of dollars being generated to bailout the world’s banks is comical.

On another note, I’m sure that had the event been scaled down and a statement released about saving money or some such it would have immediately been dismissed as a publicity stunt. The problem is that Obama has appointed advisors that will give him the same bad advise as Bush and Clinton before him. The cost of this event is symbolically problematic, but then it is historic and special, and the world is full of magic spectacles that actually do impress, motivate, and give direction to people.
01-24-2009 11:15 AM
tiny terror Selectively applied? Really? Did anyone here suggest we deserve a bail out? Pretty sure no one did, but it's a damned shame the government has money to spend on a party when the rest of the country they work for is sitting at home trying to figure out how to pay their bills and keep their house.

A drop in the bucket, when placed with all the other drops, fills the bucket and quenches the thirst.
01-24-2009 10:17 AM
jupiterboy Funny how our righteous indignation is so selectively applied. The money spent, although extravagant, is a drop in the bucket compared to what has already been given away. And dare I say, many many Americans have overspent themselves and don't deserve a bailout any more than a bank does. Who is ready to watch society crumble and go nomad just to prove a point though?

I don't think there is an analogy for how deeply we have screwed ourselves in an effort to feed our community sized personal egos.

Now magnify that into the trillions and millions. That's what our country did today and I have read so many people jumping up and down over how this expenditure should not be criticized, after all we are celebrating what makes this country great.

What would have made this country greater is to recognize this was not the time to spend so frivolously. Private contributions did not cover the entire expense, so some things should have been cut out.

150 million spent. How much could have been private contributions? 50 million? 100 million? Still leaves a huge chunk of money spent so a public servant can start his new job.

Wonder how many people would have liked just a tiny piece of that to save their homes.
Totally agree, I wonder if the rest of the world is saying how stupid we are doing this given our current economic position? I would say yes

Joe Dirt I got a new position at work, so now I get to have a giant party too! This is going to be so cool. Does anyone know the number to HBO so I can get it on television? I'm sure millions will want to attend. I'm a public employee, so I'm sure Uncle Sam won't mind footing the bill for my party too. Recession my A$$, lets party. It's not like it's my money or like I'll have to pay it back someday!
