Well sounds like the deal is in your favor if that is what you want. Like everyone says and as you said the other guy is looking for something more streetable. The Bias tires will not be as "nice".
Based on your response doesn't sound like you see much highway driving or long trips so these should last a while. As far as the size to axle ratio I think you are at your limits with a 35/36" tire but that has been said too.
I'd start gathering parts for D44's. The waggy 44 is a great option because the inner c's are already at 6* just have to switch the brakes over to f150 to be back on 5 on 5.5.

Remember bias takes a little getting used to, the cold weather manners suck. But if you air down and crawl trails you cant beat a bias tire.

|Jay5.9l||A D44 or a D60 has always been in the plans but are a long way off. Thanks for the info. Now I need to decide if I want to use the bead locks a I picked up for a song or sell them for $$ toward a cage.|

The FSJ Wagoneers/Cherokees came with a D44 up front. You'd need to get a '79 or older example to get one with the differential on the right side. And then you'd have to deal with the 6 lug bolt pattern (or just grab the matching rear end if you don't mind an offset differential in the rear). Keep in mind also that a narrow track Wagoneer is the same width as a wide track CJ. The wide track Cherokee and J10 pickups are quite a bit wider.

The auto helps reduce shock loading on the axle. But that 4:1 puts extra stress on the axle. The ring and pinion are the weak point in your setup. You can probably run the axle for a while but I'd start saving now for a real upgrade. A Dana 44 would be good. If you buy new you can get one between 2 and 3 thousand dollars depending on how well equipped it is.
If I was running your setup I'd consider getting some Warn premium hubs and install their hub fuses to go with it. Carry several spares. That way the hub will pop before the ring and pinion and that makes trail fixes a lot easier.

I have a auto and 4:1 in the Xfer so I crawl vs full throttle boogy. Here is a pic of them. Not mine but the same ones....thank you internet!

|derf||It depends on your wheeling style. 35/36" tires are at the top end of what a built CJ D30 can handle. If you're not abusing it, you should be OK. If you really beat the snot out of it, you'll break it sooner or later.|

Am I Crazy: trade my 35" MTRs for 36" Bias Iroks?
I am running a half worn set of the old style 35" MTRs on my CJ (D44 back, D30 front with cromos, 4.56 and locked all the way around). I found a guy wanting to trade his practically brand new 36" bias Iroks for something more streetable.
Am I crazy for going up in size with my slightly built factory axles? The CJ is a weekend play toy that does not see much use other than short trips and local trails.
