My sister in law lives in seattle. We've visited many times over the past 10 years. at least twice a year. Usually 7-10 days per visit.
They get SOOOO excited when we come up because in all that time we have spent in Seattle...we have yet to see a single cloud...not one. They say its wierd. They say that they have periods that are so grey that when there is a brief flash of sunlight, everyone runs outside to look at it.
Kinda the way we do down here when there is a hope of rain.
Gotta love the paradox.

|Vici||Lol yea you must have caught our tailwind. That forecast sounded a little spot on!|
|12-20-2012 08:37 PM|
Im in SINtral Texas
Yall need to close your door....your letting all the wind out of OK and theres only about 3 shrubs in the 400 miles between us to slow it down.
|12-20-2012 08:31 PM|
That's no biggy...I didn't want to drive on the highway today with my doors ON!! 50 some odd mph winds and half doors...I thought they were coming off or I was going deaf before I got to work. Wind and Jeeps don't mix!
Vroooom are you an okie?
|12-20-2012 11:39 AM|
High of 50 today with winds gusting to 45!!!
I'm glad I got doorless streaking out of my system yesterday.
|12-20-2012 08:32 AM|
Nah. I was lazy (energy conservative) and in a hurry. So I just yanked the front two doors. Yeah...I know...half-assed, but the spirit was there.
Interestingly, The biggest headache was the crosswind. You'd think 80mph whould make the puny 25kt crosswing irrelevent....but not the case. Id be trucking along fine, leaning into the 25kt wind, and get hit with just a little gust and it felt like getting punched.
Again...nothing "news worthy" just another life-lesson to keep things interesting.
Wife and I thought about Seattle, we got kinfolk there. But then we visited Alaska and now think we want to move to Alaska someday....but thats cuz our only visit (so far) was during the 2-weeks of the year with absolutely amazing weather. Wasnt freezing. Wasnt sultry. No skeeters. We know we have to go back for a reality-check to see what the other seasons are like. Interesting how few Wranglers there were up there.

|Raiderfan001||Was it doors off/top on? It's not as bad when the top is off.|
|12-20-2012 04:49 AM|
You're spoiled by the Texas heat. Up here 80* would not only be top and door off weather, but 80mph would be needed just to cool me down.
The top doesn't even go up 'til 59*.

Lol.... it was still 76 when I got home..in the dark...at 7.
But any lower woulda been getting kinda nipply.
So... My window for doorlessness is 75 - 105 which gives me about 7 months.
Wind was my problem today.
I always have a hoodie in the cargo compartment.
|12-19-2012 11:38 PM|
Just wear a hoodie.
It gets worse when the sun goes down.
|12-19-2012 10:22 PM|
I want everything heated,
Side of Doors
Floor and Tops

Not a good kind of motorboating.

|Nashorn101||I feel you too. I don't like running with the doors off or top off when going super fast...it colder that way and its super freaking windy.|
|12-19-2012 09:53 PM|
Just enjoying what I can.

|Dew||Doors and shoes off. you sir are one bad motha...|

|GoldenSahara00||Just drive slower, I drive 60 on the highway when shes naked. I understand though, and no reason to make yourself miserable. You have no expectations to live up to|

|whetstone||This thread reminds me of when I was 16. My dad had a '79 CJ7, and it was a treat for me to drive it. My mom and sister were out in it one day and got caught in a thunderstorm. They called me to bring mom's car to where they were hiding in a car wash so they could drive it home, while I took the Jeep. At that age, I remember the ride home as being awesome! Now, I'd probably hunker down somewhere and wait it out.|
|12-19-2012 09:30 PM|
Yeahhhhh....but I kept playing the "It'll get better anyyyyy minute" game....
Until I was 30 miles from my house..and my doors.
It wasnt horrible. Its just there were some spans where it was more trouble than it was worth. Briefly.

|whetstone||I'm well past the age of making myself miserable just to prove a point, too. When doors-off isn't fun, I put them on.|
|12-19-2012 08:47 PM|
I admit i puss'd out
Forecast for the rest if the week/month/year/season is headed downward.
I decided to run doorless for one last day to close the season pleasantly. Yes, the tem indicator says 84 at. 6pm.
So I headed into town to pick up some licorice flavored jelly beans for my mom-n-laws stocking (brownie points).
Along the way, I decided that 80mph toll road, plus 25 knot crosswind (gusting to 32 ) was just no fun with the doors off.
Maybe I'm too old. Maybe I'm too "soft". Maybe I'm too spoiled. I dunno. At lower speeds it was awesome....fun...enjoyable.
But in that rolling hurricane that was my Jeep for a couple of hours today, I learned my limits of tolerance for being boxed around by gusts of wind stout enough to pull my aviators off my face and send me scrambling to keep them from flying out the other side.
From now on....only when I have time to keep it casual under 60 and only when the cross winds are under 10.
Doors ON....everything is, of course, fair game.
