Lusus_Naturae At least he didn't blow the 4th rod out the bottom of the engine like I did when I hydrolocked my Porsche in a dip in the road. Long block... $$

bc3_Jeep Broken/bent pieces can be replaced. Been there, done that, when I blew the wall out of a motorcycle block long ago with a broken connecting rod. Fixed the wall it with some JB Weld, replaced piston and rod..... and rode that bike for a few thousand more miles....... saved 100s of $$$$$$$.

Maybe the lesson to learn, is to look before you leap........ into water OR huge $$$$ repairs.....get many opinions IN PERSON...... before you make major $$$$$ choices.

Learn the differences between Short Block, Long Block, factory reman,.....etc......

kik Water = slow. A stock JK can handle the water you're in if you go slow. You most likely have a bent rod. However, checking for codes is a good place to start. Inexperience = $. Hope you can get it taken care of.

Could be the plugs are done, possible even just bad compression, but since he said there's a knock, it's most likely a bent rod.

jadmt Is the engine throwing any codes. I know the general consinsous (sp?) is hydrolocked bending rods etc but there are other things that can cause rough running too. I would start with the simple things first.

enjerhoo So do you plan on attempting to change out the engine yourself? Can't hurt at this point if its already trash. Might learn something if you feel spry

I blew a $1500 flat screen TV once. Took it apart, found some bad capacitors, desoldered, replaced & bang, now I'm a TV repair man too. Whenever I break something, I almost always take it apart whether it's a drill, toaster, computer tranny etc. Call it monkey curiosity. WTF. If you do, take some pics of the #2 exhaust lifter. I am sure everyone here would like to see it.

fljeepleo What a nightmare! I did this with my first TJ when I was 16 years old, it was 3 weeks old and sunk it to the headlights. Very expensive lesson learned!

Silverton34 Pull the dipstick, (the one under the hood, please) and see how much water is in the oil. It probably doesn't matter as the engine is now likely a large paper weight.

Oh, call your insurance company and inform them of what happened when you hit that low spot in the road that was flooded.

Wharfrat This is why you pull all the plugs and turn the engine over with them out before trying to start it. It will evacuate the water out of the spark plug holes.

You blew your engine, dude.

Raiderfan001 Expensive lesson learned. Don't play in the water without the proper setup. And if you do suck water pull the plugs before trying to start it next time.

Powderburn I did this exact same thing, only it wouldn't turn over at all. It was super mega hydro locked. I would agree, time for a new engine, and a snorkel.

Hyrdolock means liquid has entered the combustion chamber, and because liquid does not compress, engine must stop(lock) or itll fail. If you're hearing a knock it might be a bent rod.

JB71 Sounds like you hydro-locked the engine. Most likely the noise you're hearing is a bent connecting rod hitting the block, pretty sure the engine is toast. Not what you wanted to hear I'm sure but it sure sounds like that's what happend....sorry.

Water in the engine

I was playing in the water and made it through a puddle that was a couple feet deep before the last time when I hit it with too much speed and got water in my air box? It stalled immediately and out of ignorance I tried to start it while my pipes were under water; no bueno! I got pulled out then tried to crank it again. Cranked but made a funny sound. We pulled the air box and was quite a bit of water in it, filter was soaked, as well as water through the throttle control flap/valve inside the top part of the engine.

The ignorance continues!

Because it wouldn't start by cranking it over we decided to do it manually by pulling it behind a truck and popping the clutch. It worked however it is making a sound when idling now that sounds like a hammer hitting the engine. Would this be a bent camshaft?

I apologize for my idiocy but any thoughts on problem?
