viperx6x9x Yeah that dimmer can be a tricky one. I had 2 orange wires on the harness, one marked dimmer (maybe i haven't found the switch yet but I don't think I have one, i'm used to all the buttons and switches in my chevy). 1 was marked illumination. So i hooked up the illumination wire instead, and that apparently blows the accessory fuse .

That'll teach me to ignore the fact that the illumination wire didn't have a white stripe (like the one coming out of the radio harness) while the dimmer wire did have a white stripe. At least it was an easy fix

Moral of the story; Pretty colors, match em up. Don't second guess it.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the original post. But since the OP said "music comes out", I'm thinking he has a marine-grade stereo receiver.

viperx6x9x If you didn't already cut the wires, just order a wiring harness from crutchfield.

I put a radio in mine yesterday and it made the job soooo much easier, If I remember right it was like $10, I ordered it a while ago. They mail you a build sheet too for noobs like me that didn't know how to dissasemble the dash and get the old radio out.

It plugs into the harness that plugs in the back of the stock radio, leaving color coded wires to solder/crimp to the wires from the radio harness. In most cases just match up the colors and solder it up. (don't forget the heat shrink tube to keep moisture out or your connections)

That should help clear up some of the questions. The harness should be a more weather resistant wire. Built to stand up to the elements better than standard copper core single sheath wire. See if you can google exactly what you have and read comparisons.

Marine radio in a 2001 TJ

Need help wiring a marine radio into my TJ (2001 SPORT AUTO). Ive already got the radio and the marine radio came with its own wiring harness thats different from the one you buy with a standard radio. I really just need some help saying hey this boat wire is equilivent to this car wire.

HOW DO I DO THIS. Literally driving me nuts.

Thanks guys
