I did the same thing as you did allblackeejk. I like the sound I have now I just put a JBL 804 sub in the stock enclosure plenty of bass for my liking. I mounted the amp pdx5 and LC8 under my passenger seat with one of my brackets I make.
I bet it took me about 15 total hours knowing nothing about the stock alpine system but all is good now. I can hear so clear it's kind of nuts!

I ended up installing a 5 channel amp and redoing the whole system but retaining the factory nav (730n) because I liked the integration. I learned a lot about the factory premium system in the process. To answer the ques I only used one set of the factory DVC sub wiring for the JL sub and taped up the other set and left it in the enclosure. It should be adequate for the 180w i had going to it. Sub install was pretty easy but i would recommend taking the enclosure out of the jeep to do the work. Hardest part was getting the spacer to line up w/ the factory holes bc i marked the holes for drilling with the holes on the factory grill and it the grill didn't sit flush so there was some room for error w/ my pencil. The whole project, (sub/amp/processor/sum device) install was a major project (esp if u live in a city w/ no garage) and if i could do it again i would do it a little differently.
If you just want more bass just get the pac interface and you get rca outputs you can feed right to an aftermarket amp w/ no cutting of any factory wiring. You can use the remote level control to change the volume of the sub. This is how i plan on doing my new system in my 2013. The front components sound better when you don't have to boost the bass level so much from the dash.

|Binx||The speakers are covered under warranty, sub included. I dont think any shallow mount is really going to be that impressive, better than stock yes.|

|AllBlackEJK||JL 8w3v3 in the stock sub location sounds pretty nice. Goes real deep. U need an amp, spacer ring and dynamatt for the interior of the box. If you're trying to keep the stock look thats imo the way to go. Did that in my 2012 and it was more than enough for me.|

|bigkevj||I am clueless on Audio as well. I have a 13 sahara with premium sound and was looking to replace the sub as well, but didnt want to build a box if i didnt have to. I replaced head unit with Kenwood dnx6190hd. Can I just pull out the factory sub and plug in the Polk MM840 w/o any fabrication? will it sound better with the head unit I have?|

At that price I don't think you can get a better sub for the enclosure.
It is interesting that the MSRP last year as $150, now it is $190.
For a 8" sub they hit hard and low in a small enclosure.
You will need a real 500w amp for them to really work well.
Bracing and damping the OEM enclosure is a must too.
I am going to do two custom fiberglass boxes over the rear wheelwells using 10" Alpine SWR-T10 or the new JL 10tw3 (if they ever come to market) flat subs with a JL HD750/1 amp. My project for this spring if nothing else gets in the path...

I will start by saying:
If are a 1000 people on the board you will get 2000 answers to your questions...
I personally cannot stand the new Kicker stuff, the tweets are especially harsh.
To me they sound like a$$, I think that the alpine/infinity stocks sound better...
I would go with some higher end speakers all around if it were me.
Spend more on the front speakers, the stock tweets are trash (maybe the alpines are better?)
I also do not like full range speakers so close behind my head.
I don't care about my passengers and their listening pleasure.
If you have a JK Unlimited there is a very nice JL 13tw5 stealth box (pricey but sick)
I actually bought a take out 730n and will be running a JLB MS-8 processor.
I like the factory integration, think it sounds OK, and works very nice so far.
For what it does it is closest aftermarket is ~$1500, 3x the price for the 730n I picked up.
Plus I got a extra USB from a dodge truck for the glove box and still have the one in the console.
I only had to rewire the microphone for the uconnect to work flawlessly.
Again, my opinion, and as always YMMV

If you have already blown the stock sub it sounds like you really need bigger/more subs and more power than the sad little 8 incher.
If the box is the same basic one as the Infinity (don't see why it is not) you have about 4" mounting depth.
One of the best shallower mount subs, at least excursion wise, is the Polk MM840.
There are two versions, single VC 4ohm and dual 4ohm, I believe you want the DVC.
They sound good but need power to shine. Box size requirements is similar to OEM.
Others are Kicker CVT, Punch P3SD4-8, and I think that the JL 8w1 fit.
A JL 8w3 and others will fit with a spacer ring.
Again you will blow any of these subs too if you do not get more power.
Power does not blow speakers (unless stupid over powering) distortion does.

'13 JK stock sub replacement
Does anyone know of any aftermarket subs that fit in the stock sub enclosure? Mine is already making a 'popping' noise and I doubt that's covered under warrenty, so I'm just going to replace it. Thanks!
