I've Done It A Couple of Times

Once each direction, and I do prefer the way Joe's planning.

It's slow-going rough uphill heading south but not rock-crawling challenging or anything. I've seen trailers almost to the top, but I'm thinking it was a long day getting them there. Maybe they came in from the south. Anyway, with a lot of time and a little beating a pickup could make it.

The Muddy Mountains are awesome, with lots of interesting formations and alternate routes you can weave through. I could spend a whole day just there alone.

I'm scheduled for a house full of guests for the weekend so I'm not sure Muddy Mountains are their idea of New Year's in Las Vegas, so I can't commit. Then again, one of 'em's the guy I rented a Rubi with in Moab 2008 (but he's married now), so we may show up with a jeep load.
Do me a favor and don't leave the Petro until 8:31?

For future reference, the food's not too bad at exit 75 (it tastes very good after a whole day coming the other way from the south) and you can top off there, too. The old mines on the north face have some pretty good rock hounding - great "yard rocks" (or building material), nothing semi-precious.

Bitter Springs Backcountry Byway

Ready for a run Sunday 30 December 2012. The Bitter Springs Backcountry Byway 30 miles off road rated 4 hours from the I-15 over to Lake Mead's Northshore Drive. Time permitting we could possible do Boathouse Cove road in and out another 2 hours. Total off road 50 miles.
Meet at Speedway Petro exit 54 raedy to go at 830 AM. Top off have a breakfast and then up I-15 to exit 75. Rated no more difficult than Burro Wash lots of washes, rocks, mud, sand and some maintained road in the beginning. Never been there but used a trail guide book to find something out of the snow close by. Watched two videos on youtube and read the google searches all good for stock Jeeps. Let me know I am ready.
