30-284 Ya...I think it may have been 12 ga, I usually use larger than what I need when it comes to wire.

TexasTJ3016 Thanks. The jumper wire gage looks bulky. 12 gage?

Well...... so to speak, you might want to keep it for a spare, but the jumper will jump the power directly to the lighter with out waiting for a relay to be picked up to do it. If I remember correctly, it was terminal #87 and #30 that need to be jumped.

And yes, it goes where the relay used to be. This relay would pick up as soon as the ignition was turned on and supply power to the lighter and would go open as soon as the power is turned off, I think it was some kind of child protection or something.

Ahhh...Got it! I am going to get in there later this week and check it out.

THANKS!!!

Thanks for posting this. This is such an easy fix to keep the lighter port hot all of the time.

Ya I hated it when the power would go out and my gps would go off so that when I start driving again it would have to connect to all of the satellites again. And the kids would get mad when their dvd player would go off.

30-284 This might help to locate it better.Remember this is on my 99 so if your jeep is a different year it may be located in a different place.

SPDNJOE Also, check with a test light at the back of the cigarette lighter for power and ground. Any automotive store has the replacement if needed.

30-284 I don't have a pic right now but on my 99 it was under the dash between the steering column and the door post by the 100 wire connector. To keep it hot all of the time i switched a couple if wires on the relay so it has 12v to it all of the time. I have pics at home so if you need to know where or how to do this I will try to post them just let me know.

Bignuke Ok, can you show me a picture of where the relay is, if possible?
01-25-2010 05:19 PM
30-284 Ya but, if the relay is not picking up then there will be no power to the lighter.

Bignuke Oh yeah I tried it with the jeep on.
01-25-2010 05:11 PM
30-284 You might also check the relays as the power to the lighter is activated by a relay so when the key is off there is no power to the lighter, some kind of protection for kids I think. On my 99 it was under the dash between the steering column and the door post by the 100 wire connector.

Cigarette lighter replacement?

Hello, again.
(sorry for the two posts back-to-back but just getting them off my mind)

My cigarette lighter doesn't work, I changed the fuses and it still won't work..
Question is: Anyone know somewhere I can get a replacement? I saw on jcwhitney: 12-VOLT CIGARETTE LIGHTER - JCWhitney but I don't think that will bolt right in to where the original is..

Anyone have a site?

Thanks alot.
