|surfcape||I'm having a problem with my engine making a whistling. i was wondering if it was a bearing in the fan or the fan clutch, I just looked under the jeep and i noticed a small amount of oil that had leaked from somewhere around that area, any info would be appreciated, thanks|

Hey, thanks for the info. I didn't know if it was broken or what.
So my old fan clutch might have been worn out? It's an '06 jeep that i bought new in mid '07.
Anyway, sounds like I just have to deal with it.

|slf41002||It is annoying but it is the way the fan clutch is designed.Your old clutch was probably not up to power like the new one is.If Jerry is on later he can explain it a little better than I can but it is normal.Mine sounded like a jet engine for the first few hundred feet and then kicked out and was fine.I had a S-10 that sounded and felt like you were taking off WOT in 4lo for the first mile then it was ok.Anyway like I said it is the way it is designed.Jerry would you explain the viscous /silicone fluid and how it is cold and locks the fan at first and then once it warm a little it ,,,well anyway Jerry does it much better,,,JERRY,,,,|

man i hate troubleshooting dash noises. I found some loose bolts and tightened them. but the noise is still there. it sounds like the fan motor area, like something is loose.. anyway.
About the engine fan, an ideas? Is the fan supposed to firm or loose when the engine is off? How hard would it be to replace the clutch/fan portion to test to see if it is the problem? Will i need to remove the cowl from the radiator to replace it?

engine fan noise? need diagnosis
I tried searching the forums and it didn't really turn up anything related to my issue.
I had an accident a few months back and the front end had to have some work done. The guy in front slammed on his brakes, i hit mine, he went over my bumper and into the engine. The engine itself wasn't damaged, but the fans, radiator, a/c, etc. all had to be replaced. (no drive train damage)
When my jeep is cold/first started and i accelerate, there is a VERY LOUD noise that i can only explain as the fan (sounds like a jet almost). This noise cuts out around 3k rmp. once gone, it stays gone until the next time i crank up. sometimes it will come back if the vehicle is idle for a while, though it will go away pretty quick after that (read: sitting in a drive thru, etc).
Do you think it could be the fan clutch? or something associated with a fan part? It hasn't seemed to affect any performance. it is just very annoying when i first crank up and head out.
There is also a rattle noise in the dash when it sites idle, but the search turned up lots of possible cause that I am going to investigate.
Any help on the fan noise problem would be appreciated.
dont know if you need it or not: stock 06TJ, I-6, automatic.
