tommylavista I just got my rebuilt '99 Jeep back from the shop a month ago. They installed the same ORO LiteDOT taillights mentioned in this post. I went a few weeks with no problems at all and then all of a sudden the right side turn signal (front and rear) began to flash rapidly when signalling for right turn. Left side was fine. I spent 30 mins searching the web on the topic and came across this post. I followed the simple visual instructions posted here and the turn signal works perfectly now! Thank you! All fixed and working normal. It felt good to do it myself and not have to take it back to the shop. 15 mins...done.

KCrisp I takes about 10 minutes start to finish to modify the relay, you're not getting yourself into much.

KCrisp Cutting the circuit on the original flasher won't heat things up -- you are ending the ability of the system to misinterpret a decrease in a current consumption caused by switching to LED's as being a burned out bulb. Putting in a resistor will generate some heat.

venutoa has anyones wires burned up or melted using either the new relay(Trico EP-26) or the modification trick to the OEM relay? I am going to be doing this project for all 4 of my turn signals...when I trim my fenders. funt project

just want to be sure what I am getting myself into

Thanks!

KCrisp I tried the xacto trick on the original relay. (1999 SE) The flashing went from blinking like crazy to a bit fast but perfectly acceptable.

venutoa Triple88a and mr4x4,

ok...so I am confused. so If I use the new relay...my wires will get burned up?
the Trico EP-26.

Thanks in advance.

SPDNJOE Just did the mod to my stock flasher. Took all about 5 minutes and works awesome. Thank you everyone.

LED lights pull about 5 watts each.
The 1157 on the other hand pulls 26 to 27 watts each which is what the relays are set for.

Thats 21-22 watts going straight to the resistor to be turned as heat.

21 / ~13.8 = +1.52 amps EACH CORNER

Quite a bit of heat

Open the relay, use an exacto knife to cut the burned out light bulb feature and be done with it. Takes about 5 minutes.

my flasher relay is not located in that area
and the place he is cutting is what you do for the older jeeps
I had to use a resistor and soder it inside the relay its self

I picked up on of thos flasher relays for the led's at the local parts store
it burned up the first time I used my hazzard lights

I think I will just pick up the relay from genright A few friends of mine are running leds front and rear like I am and everything works for them

heres a write up of what I did to my flasher relay
I did the 2 years ago before anyone started to manufactur the relays for led lights

They pull you over for random things. My last ticket was for parking on a snow bank. Before that tinted front windows..etc

End of the summer i was riding my bike. I passed a cop that was on the side of the road. I was going at the speed limit (50mph) few seconds after, the cop caught up to me so he must have gotten to 70-80mph to catch up that fast. He drove behind me for a bit. Then went on my left. The cop in the passenger seat checked me out. Then they slowed down. Cops here have problems man.

I've actually pulled up to a 4-way stop with a cop, while my turn signal is going crazy like that, and the cop didn't even give me a second look. Things are alot different out here than out there. I remember all the bullsh*t laws there were when I lived out in NY. Man, talk about ANAL!

BLACKTOOTHGRIN I actually put my OEM relay back in about a month afterwards.
That delay that I was describing really got on my nerves. It was like it was retarded or something.

relay source

Does anyone have a source on these relays, I can not seem to purchase the ep-26 with the leds writing on the relay or package.
Also no one seems to have a part number other than EP-26 which does
not seem to have the low voltage draw circuitry.

The EP-26 LED Flasher works!

I just got done installing my ORO LED tail lights and the EP-26 LED Flasher. It all works well. The only thing I noticed with this flasher is that there is a slight delay from the time you flip your blinker arm to the time it starts blinking. It lights up right away, but there's about a 1 to 1.5 second delay before it starts to flash. No big deal, but keep it in mind.

If anyone else has had this happen with this flasher please let me know.

Overall I'm very pleased witht the new LED's. They look great both on and off, and really give your TJ a unique look. I reccomend them 100%.

Yeah, it was a pain in the butt trying to find this part. Like I said, this was the only one in the Tri-City area. I was going to Mod mine too by cutting the lead, but luckily I found this one. I hope it works.

Yes, this is a 4 pin. On the front it says EP-26 LED, 2-6 lamps, which would imply that if your 4 front markers were LED's then it would work for them too. I have no idea if that's true at this point. I did however order a 4 PC clear marker kit. It also comes with 4 amber bulbs to keep you legal, but I might switch those out to LED's as well, not sure yet. If I do, I'll let you know. Hell, I'm not sure it will even work for the rear 2 yet. That remains to be seen.

Good Ol' Internet Sales

I don't know if anyone is actually waiting for me to post if this new flasher will work or not, but I wanted to give a heads ups just in case.

I received my LiteDots directly from Off Road Only today, and I was excited to get them on. So, I stripped the old one's off my Rig, cut the wires, got everything ready for the install, and then I noticed a big problem. Some DILDO at Off Road Only shipped me 2 Drivers Side Tail Lights.
The only reason I can see for anyone to not know their left from right is because of too much !

You'd think since I ordered directly from the manufacturer, I'd get better service. Nope! Internet crap is internet crap. If any of you are looking to purchase these, I suggest going to a retailer.

Anyways, hopefully they'll send the Passenger Side Light in a few days, and I'll finally be able to get everything done. Talk with you then.

mr4x4 I put the resistor in my flasher
but it doesnt work if you get rid of the flasher bulb in the front fenders and put an led in

I wonder if that flasher will work with front and rear led's

I know the flasher you get from genright works

Modified Flasher Relay For 97-00 LED Tail Lights

Hey Guys,

I'm sure this has been addressed before, and may even be old info, but I wanted to post it anyways just so it would be up front for some of us noooooobs!

I'm gonna be putting some LED's on the back of my TJ soon. By everything I've read on the net, once the mod is complete, the flasher in your cab will flash like crazy because the system thinks that it has a bulb out. To correct this problem, I've heard there are 3 different ways.

1. Mod your existing flasher by cutting a particular lead.
2. Use some sort of resistor.
3. Buy a Modified Flasher Relay and install it.

I guess they've been selling Mod'd Falsher Relays for 01-06 for a while now.
However, I just found some info that there are now some Mod'd Flashers for 97-00, and that you can pick them up at your local autoparts stores. It's a Trico EP-26 LEDS. I bought one today at Napa Auto Parts. However, it was not as readily available as I had heard. This was the only one I could find within the Tri-City area that included: 3 Checkers, 3 Autozones, 2 Avanced, and 2 Napa's. Hopefully you guys that are looking for them will have an easier time than I did. The picture below is of the exact flasher that was purchased. This way, you know exactly what to look for.

I am going to be ordering my LED Tail Lights tomorrow. After I receive them and have time to install them, I will let you all know if the Modified Flasher works for our 97-00 TJ's.
