|JKASS||If you go with the unlimited, get the Sahara for power locks, windows, and painted trim for better resell value, you could market it as an SUV. If you get the 2 door, probably wont matter as much.|

|Leverageconsulting||Well I appreciate everyone's response. Def alot to take in. I truly thought a base since I do plan on getting wheels. But then thought I always had pwr windows and locks. But to add that it's a whole upgrade to a sport S. which comes with wheels. At that point I'm only 1000 away from a Sahara. So which of these have a better resale value and demand.|

My kids are grown, so I got a 2dr. I prefer the looks of a 2dr over a 4dr anyway. The Sport base was the way to go for me. The back seat will come out.
With the connectivity group I have the EVIC and the radio/phone controls on the steering wheel. The only things a Sahara has over mine (other than some cosmetic trim) is power windows/locks and auto headlights. The frame, body and power train are all the same. Even the seats, carpet, dash etc are the same, not counting upholstery or color differences. Of course the Rubicon has some drive train differences.
I can get better aftermarket speakers and a powered sub for around the same price as the Alpine option, and it will sound better too.
I have the steel wheels with what looks like 5 spare tires, but they will soon be replaced, just a many do with the nicer factory wheels/tires.
As for the ride, I think it's great. Much better than my 4x4 Super Duty crew cab, which I rarely drive anymore. But if someone is basing the ride experience against a car, I can see why there are some complaints about it.

|Timjeep||Also, a jeep is probably the easiest vehicle you will ever work on. I replaced the radio and speakers with an aftermarket. The radio it had when I got it left a lot to be desired. The price of aftermarket is a lot cheaper than buying from the factory when you order it. With the help of this forum, it is easy to get instructions on replacing about anything you may want to replace.|

I got a 2 door sport s with the upgraded wheels. My kids are grown up and I didn't see a use for the 4 door. Plus the 2 door is how I always pictured Jeeps. It depends on what point you are at in your life. Ten years ago, I would have a 4 door unlimited, with the kids. I do wish I would have gotten the base sport. I wasted money because I have new wheels and tires now and the wheels the s has on it in the garage.
A lot depends on the mods you want and what you want to use it for. Hard tops, soft tops, half doors, full doors, a lot of thinking as to how you are going to use it.
But, you won't regret getting one, no matter what you choose. Bought it as my second vehicle, but I rarely use my car now.

i think it depends where you are in life and make sure you drive both around town and on highway.
if its your daily driver, JKU (4 door) i think makes the most sense. if its not, absolutely go with JK (2 door) and save money. for me, being a young adult, married, and kids probably in next 5 years or less, JKU makes the most sense. also, if you are going to use it more for a "sport utility vehicle" JKU has so much more room and if you drop the back seat down, you sort of have a bed like a truck. and because the top comes off, you would be surprised what you can move in the thing. also, having an awesome rig and then making your friends squeeze into the back of a JK can be annoying.

The problem I found on the choppy ride of the 2 drs are the shocks are so bad even my buddy's Rubicon had that same choppy ride. I switched to Rancho xl9000 adjustable shocks and that choppy ride is history. As far as my rear seat I removed that the day I bought my jeep and have a lot of room now.
I see the reasons for a 4dr jeep but I had no reason to buy one and happy I did not.

|chcg12||Have a 4dr and still go back and forth all the time. 2dr has great turning radius. Regarding room the 2dr is really nice if you take out the backseat. I did that from day one with my 1999 TJ and just took it out of my gfs 2008 JK-just something else to consider..|

Depends on your use.
I went with a 2012 unlimited sahara, freedom top, Base level audio.
Mine is a daily driver, & I am single with no kids (in the house). Base audio is just fine for me. But I've had windup windows for a while, in my last 3 vehicles, and really appreciate the upgrade to power. I am appreciating the power locks similarly. If you have had these conveniences in your past vehicles, you may regret not having them.
I prefer the unlimted over the 2dr for the added wheelbase, & therefore less choppy ride.
I use the rear seat every day for throwing in groceries, gym bag, etc. With rear window tint on the freedom top, I have no concerns on security of contents, as it is difficult to see anything back there. Will be a different feeling if/when the soft top goes on, I am sure.
When I picked up my rampage full width front recovery bumper (think mods ) at the shipping depot, I had to take it out of the box and slip it between the front seats (with the rear seats folded down) to get it home. Could not have done that in a 2dr.
Good luck with your decision. Either way, be sure to get one with the new motor. Well worth it.

|07tungsten||We were in the same situation and decided on a 2dr Sahara (it was only a bit more than the Sport S). I absolutely love the 430N but chose not to get bluetooth--gonna add it with the lockpick down the road if I really decide I want it. The Sahara is pretty fancy and I must admit I like the automatic headlights and some of the extras that come with it.|

I'd say it depends on who is going to be driving around in it. If you have a family then I'd say go for the 4-dr. Otherwise, the 2-dr seems fine.
Also, we have the 430N Uconnect. I have something similar in my Sebring and it's great. I couldn't see the need for the somewhat higher price 730N.

I went with a 2 door manual as my Jeep's a second vehicle (expensive toy heh) and since my first vehicle ever was a 2dr manual tj it just felt the proper thing to do.
Perhaps it's the whole "rose colored glasses" thing, or the fact that the manual trans in the '13 was the design of some maniacal engineer graduate student hell-bent on making hill starts and reversing a chore, but I catch myself wishing at times that I had a four door standard.
Seriously, even if no one rides in the back you have so much more room for things as simple as grocery shopping. I think the four door is a better option for a DD at least.

if you're planning on changing the wheels/tires, the base model is a good buy. Otherwise, get the S package sport or a sahara (if you like painted fenders).
Go play around with the 2 door and the 4 door at the dealer and make your own decision. 2 doors have an awesome turn radius and look great, but the trunk can barely fit a suitcase. If you get the soft top, it's a huge pain to get anything in the back. Also, the 2 door is very choppy on the highway compared to the 4 door.
I rented a 2 door to test it out for a weekend before I ordered a 4 door.

|JKjingle||Depends what you are going to do with it and what's important. I'm a young guy no kids, love offroading so a 2dr was the only way to go in my mind. The space is a little limited but I make do just fine.|

|jadmt||I like the extra space but every time I see a 2dr I think they just look better. In 4 months and 5000 miles I have had 4 people in my jeep a total of about 400 miles on two different trips. My kids are 17 and 20 so not like they are chomping at the bit to go with mom and dad lol.|

I getting ready to pull the trigger on a JK. I'm torn between a two or four door for one. Then I was looking at the Sahara and I read that most leave there doors unlocked since the thieves would just cut the top. If that's the case should I just get the base model with just the automatic ? Is u connect worth it ? It's a 5k spread from base to Sahara. Only a 1k spread from sport s to Sahara. Any insights will help.
