JeepHerz I don't mean to ask stupid questions- but what did your dash say your MPG was when you filled up on the 230 mile tank? Are you sure 230 miles was totally empty? Did you put 18.5 (or 22.5) gallons in? You're somewhere in the 10-12 MPG arena. I am on 305.70.17s/3.21s/MTs/auto- I drive 90% city- and I get 14 MPG. I frequently forget I am not driving our supercharged G35 so I don't exactly baby it. (Wiping out any gains from 3.21s).
Stock tires to your Duratracks shouldn't make that much of a difference but something has to account for MPG change. If the only change you made prior was the tires....Some have also mentioned winter gasolines will also affect your MPG. They don't use them here in Cali. but if they do in your area it might be worth looking into. Could just be a combo of bigger, newly shorn tires, an overwhelming desire to lay medal to the pedal after your new lift, and winter gas. Yah, that's it,,,

jwright343 Thanks all for the info. JeepHerz, i've been told of the resetting of the computer, but like everyone else is saying, there's not that much of a difference in tire size. So will resetting the computer make significant changes to regaining gas mileage or just make the mileage look 'not so bad'? Also, am I screwing up my RPM, gear settings, etc. by not changing the settings. My dealership has said they will look at it, but if I know one thing it's to never trust the dealership. I just love how when I drove it home off the lot it said 330 miles to empty...... not so much!

JeepHerz My Daystar bump stops broke on install. DIY: cut down some 1 1/2" PCV pipe, add a cap, and put them in the stock bumpstops. (If you need them). The tire carrier should be fine weight-wise with a 33" Duratrack. They're light comparitively speaking.

Yes your gas mileage will drop but that's a lot. Did you re-set to your current tire size? A Procal will do it. (Search "Procal"- many threads). Your indicators (speed, RPM) will be off otherwise. You might be changing your driving style without knowing it.

tabber02 just make sure the bump stops on the tailgate are touching the spare tire. if they aren't go get your self some daystar bump stops.

you don't want the tire jiggling around back there. that's the biggest thing.

Rtone1583 You should be okay. 33's aren't too much bigger than stock so it should still fall within the weight liitations of the stock carrier.

Hi y'all. Brand new here. College edumecated but technology stupid so bear with me. I've recently upgraded to the 33 inch duratrac tires. They are awesome. I've mounted them on the factory rims which I powder coated black. Will the factory tire carrier be able to support that increased weight since it's a bigger tire but same rim? Also, is anyone with a 12' JK having horrible gas mileage with bigger tires and a 2 1/2" lift. I got a whopping 230 miles on my last tank. I know it will go down but that seems a little excessive. Yes, I know Jeeps are the most UN-aerodynamic vehicles on the street. FYI my jeep also has that 'goose/fast n furious wannabe' sound at certain speeds. Usually about 40mph.
