Gundo19 Hey is there any good spots near laurel md I just moved down from nj and I don't know anyone if there is anyone in my area that likes to wheel I'd love to meet new people to go with

Rwilliamjacob I just read that on the DNR site. I guess Savage River got the OK? Kinda bummed cause its almost 1.30 past Greenridge and Sidlinghill... You can still be on trails rd. but some neighbor was putting nails at the east end. West end with all the rocks is the fun spot anyway.

Hubdeep Yeah, I've been working on those Western Md sites with DNR. Problem is two of the three sites fell through or were 'disallowed' for OHV use. We've been working for two years to go ANYTHING opened up and this is what we have, so far.

Trails road was fun for a quick fix or to check out certain mods you had done. The road is public, just not maintained by PDOT. The issue with Trails Rd is that people had been dumping trash there for years and a local 4x group used to go up there and travel across the stream and drive all over the property opposite Trails Rd which is strictly private property. Both issues have caused locals to become very 'protective' and they even put up a gate, (which was taken down b/c it is public access).

Overall, Rausch Creek truly is your best bet. While you do have to pay to play, you can wheel on over 6000 acres, you can camp, and they have repair tools/parts/etc on site to get you home.

Rwilliamjacob There are some ORV trails out western MD. They are trying to open some up at Sideling hill out in Washington County, if anyone ever went to the Greenridge ones. Rausch Creek is pretty cool and depending on where you live, its 2hrs or so from MD line assuming you are coming up 83. You used to be able to hit up trails road in Delta PA, but that is getting hard to deal with the neighbors there. Theres some guy from Adams Jeep that used to take people there. He had some pact with the locals, but that went to hell. Its supposed to be a seasonal access road so technically they aren't allowed to say get out, but according to what I heard on here its private property. Which I don't think is true. Some of the cops say you're allowed to be there. So who knows. R/C seems like a bargin if you ask me. A bunch of us are going on the 27th of October if anyone wants to piggy along, PM me.

back in the game I used to have permission from Land Rover to go to the Land Rover test course back in the day! It was ok but I can say I was stuck in there for 36 hours!! The good old days are gone.

I am setting up trips with the Land Rover guys to allow Jeeps to go with them.

Hubdeep Unless you have a friend or family with private property, there are not any local legal wheeling areas, (unless you want to hit Assateague Island and take out a small loan to pay for a day pass).

Bloody Ponds in Glen Burnie, Yellowgates in Crofton, Coca Cola Drive off Rt 100, and the old Land Rover Test Track in Upper Marlboro all are illegal and off limits. Even Trails Rd was nearly closed when locals put up a gate to block access except for locals. The issue is that people (predominately not jeepers, use these places for illegal dumping of trash. Bloody Ponds and Yellowgates were used as dumping areas for stolen cars from Baltimore City. Coca Cola drive is acually owned by two separate entities: CSX Railroad and Howard County; that property is currently in development. The Land Rover test course was closed back in 1997 when they built their own course down off MLK Blvd in Lanham.

back in the game Yellowgates (AKA Patuxent) is closed too. The club Maryland Mud Bugs went there for a club trip and every single one of them received a ticket. I drive by there a bunch and see people still use it but it is hairy getting in.

amerdt4 I've only heard people were only getting robbed for their dirt bikes / Atvs not vehicles . Not that it matters either way , I would imagine at bloody ponds if you rolled deep you might be ok . I haven't been to c.c.drive in year after all the development so I have nothing to add there . Anyone heard of Yellowgate ? Is that place still an option?

back in the game As far as coca cola drive I have been ticketed there twice and bloody ponds well guys have been held at gun point and had their vehicles taken from them. I live near both places and pass on them.

Fritz4077 There are a few places where a lot of people go wheeling off coke cola drive near arundle mills mall I have been there a lot of fun and the law doesn't mind another spot is bloody ponds in Curtis bay md both are a lot of fun spots and are not bothered by the law

Any recent news? I enjoy the drive out to beautiful PA but it sure would be nice to have somewhere more local to go.

jquinn83 The only legal place to wheel in Maryland is Assateague Island south of Ocean City Over Sand Vehicle (OSV) Use - Assateague Island National Seashore There is a member of these forums, Hubdeep, who seems to be the point man on working with land-owners and state officials to open a few areas. They seem to be making some headway on a few places out in Western MD but nothing final yet.
