I am looking at a Diesel as it is the "official" Euro model anyway and I will use it for mainly offroad travelling. I plan for equipping it with a roof rack or replacement hardtop including a pop-up tent, not sure which way to go yet...

For the Euro market - you should have the Diesel already, so the big difference would be the 2011 interior design. Otherwise, the sway bar disco and the lockers have remained the same across all JK years for the Rubicon.
The AEV 3.5 inch lift will allow you to run 37s, but I'm not sure if you can replace or modify your fenders. You'll have no problem with 35s. If you can add armor/skids to your Jeep, you'll probably want to do that regardless of year.
Big hullabaloo on the forum here was Jeep going from a plate to a bar to address, if I recall correctly, over heating issues on the later model JK with auto transmission.

BUT...that could also depend on the engine you have.
In the states, there is a big difference between the 2007-2011 vs the 2012+. Different engine and auto tranny.
But if you have a diesel engine....none of it may matter.

Potential TJ-JKU swap, buyer's question
I tried to find any info on this and found lots of specific answers to specific tech topics. But my question is of general nature. Perhaps you guys can help me.
I currenly own a 2000 TJ Sahara and basically love it. However, space is a problem (2 kids), lift capability an installation options (roof rack/tent). I live in Switzerland and we have strong regulations about lifting vehicles. On my TJ I have a 5cm body lift and 265 75 R16 Cooper STTs (about 32 inch tires).
For the JK and JKU we are allowed to install the AEV 3.5 premium inch lift kit (Swiss certificate available). From what I heard and read this would allow me to mount up to 35 inch (or even 37?) tires on the JKs. That would be super!
Now, budget is limited and I could get a 2008 JKU Rubicon for a fair price (for Europe...). I tried to find out differences between those years (2007/2008) to the more recent models (2012). I found same things have now diffent names (compared models at autochannel.com).
My question: Are there big differences between those model years and the modern ones (not talking about the 2013 and special editions). My main interest is about the difflocks, the sway bar disconnects, skid plates etc. The offroad-relevant items. Have they changed a lot since the first JK-Rubicons? Any reason for waiting or investing in a more modern model?
