From more research it appears Ford used the 9" with 68" wms on all 1972 E series vans. Could be from a 1972 E100, or E150.

mattamd_xp The only ford 9" rear axle that I've been able to find with a 68" wms width is from a 1972Ford 3/4 ton van. 1973-77 were 65" wms, and '78 to 86 were 69".

jeepjeep the front axle is a 77 1/2 f150 super cab, but the rear is not,68 wms, too wide

mattamd_xp Those sound like axles out of a 1970's F150. Because the front axle had leaf spring mounts and 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern I would say they are from a 77-78 F-150 supercab. The BOM on the axle would be 610012-1, or -2 or it would be 610048-1, -2, -4, or -5.

jeepjeep got the new axles in, wrong length...this shit never ends...maybe somebody knows what axle i have, 5 x 5.5 pattern, 31 spline,68" wms,11 x 2.5 brakes,axle length 33.25 ", equal length axles, so PLEASE HELP!if not i am going to customs shafts prolly from moser

GrnTJ Understandable. I think if mine break Im just gonna get stock 31 spline cromos because Im settin detroit lockers up in the front and back and I deff. dont want to have to change those out. But cromoly shafts are supposedly about 35% stronger than a stock shaft so if a stock one breaks then hopefully that would fix it. I do have a stock spare for the front though just in case but after I break that the front is deff. gonna get some upgraded shafts. That thing looks great and it gives me a wonderful idea of what mine will look like because I have a red TJ with FT long arms and the same axles, lmao. Even funnier, I used to run 34" interco's too. Hopefully she'll hold up to the new 36's!

mattamd_xp What is the width on those axles? I am looking at a set from a 77 F-150, but I'm afraid they will be too wide without shortening them. Awesome build too

jeepjeep i think i just had a bad shaft or the previous owner beat the hell out of it and i was just the unlucky one to get it. it broke while i was in sugar sand doing a rear dig.i have outher buddies doing burnouts on asphalt on 38 boggers and not braking any shafts.we will see with the new shatfs, i did not get any chromos since i am not changing the spool to 35 spline, just slaping in a set of "alloy", as i heard omix-ida owns them now and they dont up-hold there warranty, but @ 90$ each, its not end of the world money.we will see. if they dont fail in the next year, then i will throw a set of 35 spline chromos in, time will tell...

GrnTJ Now you got me worried. What size tires are you running? When Im done swappin my axles in I have a set of 36's to slap on and I thought the 9" wouldnt be any trouble. I was bankin on the 44 needing cromoly shafts before the 9" would. What were you doing that it snapped like that? I dont wheel crazy but I deff. dont baby it either.

jeepjeep no prob on the time...i plan on a hydro assist, so i do need more space. ill post up some more pics of it with tire on it so you can get a better idea.

flattietj it appears you have enough space to move it out about in an inch to clear the truss.......at least from a pic...lol...anyhow thats why i made my own arms b/c i wasnt sure what and where it would hit my truss and i had to fit a hydraulic ram in there somewhere........i can get a pic of my arms cut down...ill see if my buddy can email me his cnc specs for them so you can see what his machine burns them out as.....ill be out of town for a week so give me a lil time

jeepjeep the problem is in the hi-steer arms , they dont actually hit the spring but ,if i was to use the cross-over steer hole then the bar linking them woult hit the springs/truss. so for right now i just used the original arm for the axle in the stock location.as for the heims good idea, could you pm a pic of your blanks?in this you will see the holes for the cross-over arm and drag link are to close to the knuckle , at full turn the bar hits the spring/truss.


on another note drover it around for a while tonight,ride perfect no d/w or bump steer

flattietj can u post pics of them hitting the springs...it just doesnt make sense.......how far forward are your springs...and how high did you space your arms......also to add to the drill bit discussion.....just buy some 5/8 heims and a 5/8s drill bit and build your own steering that will be much stronger and more reliable.....5/8 heims=15 bucks....tierod ends= 30 or more...carry a spare heim and your good

jeepjeep do you have a cheap drill bit @ 7 degrees for the tierod holes? but i just might take those blanks off you if i can find a reasonable price drill bit., i put in rubicon express 5.5 . but i am thing some of the front sang in actually in the lower spring perch, possiblely lower than stock, sinch it is a tnt truss. ballistic sells short arm and longer arms i must have gotten the shorter ones. right now i am just using the stock location for the tierods in the knuckles

flattietj i can get you 13" long blanks that you cut and dril to work......u have alot of jack in that 44 get that steering out of the rocks....i will sell them or wha tyou need for cost plus shipping....i get my arms for around 10 bucks each....no joke.......im not understanding how a tierod on a tj hit the springs....did you get pics.....i would call ballistic at least and see if they can do anything....otherwise let me know if i can help you......what springs r u running....brand wise anyway.....how much lower.....lower front is good for climbing but inches is not good

jeepjeep also not going to be able to use both high steer arms as they are too short and at full turn the tie rod hit the springs, but not a big deal , i am going to use the arms casted in the knuckles and just the 1 high steer arm.

flattietj i want wheeling pics.....put er together and beat the piss out of er......hopefully yours holds together better than mine.....i got three solid wheeling trips out of it and then the front end exploded....on board welder gave me a front full spool but still i hope you have better luck than me

flattietj with all this custom stuff your not gonna run factory tj four link are ya......get rid of those track bars and double triangulate.......it will even ride better on the road...on another note everthing looks pretty sweet
