|Achipnachair||Hi all. Kalamazoo here. I also am the VP of the Sundowners 4x4 club. We have been around for 37 years now. We are all about leagle wheeling. We work close with the DNR to get trailes reopened. Absolutly no illegal wheeling here, all that does is get more trails closed and makes us all look bad. We have events all year long and do alot of wheeling and wrenching together. Anyone interested in joining or finding out more contact me or just come to a meeting. Right now they are being held at Brewsters on Portage rd. one block south of I94 on the second Thursday of each month at 7pm.|

Northern Van Buren County here
I got a 98 Wrangler Sport 4.0 in November. Got screwed over and hosed well in the deal. It rides on a 6" lift. In December it started to show it's illness when I used 4 high for the first time on snow covered roads. It's real squirrelly and hard to hang onto at 40 mph in 4 high. Seems my Jeep needs a whole lotta TLC. But... I still enjoy driving it around the back roads. Will see what I can do to it after tax time. It needs to be lower a bunch. I'm running 33's and there is way too much space between the tires and the wheel well.
So far I found out it needs another rear drive axle (or a complete overhaul of the original). Pinion bearing is shot, pinion gear is badly worn along with the ring gear. Axle shaft bearings are shot, axle shafts move in and out by as much as a 1/4" on the driver's side, about 1/8" on the passenger side. Who knows what condition the limited differential is in. In 4 high, the pinion gear sometimes skips on the ring gear making a loud bang. It grinds allot when decelerating. And makes a loud gear whine maintaining speed. I've added a thicker 140w semi truck gear oil to the rear axle for now, just to quiet the noise some. Needs new shocks, passenger side is broken - has no resistance to it. Rear axle is out of alignment, track bar is bent along with some of the control arms and driver's side rear shock. Lower ball joints on the front axle are quite worn. Front pinion seal is leaking. Some of the tie rods need to be replaced. Steering gear box is leaking. Engine oil pan needs a new gasket.
It's financed for 36 months, came to a little over $7,000 after taxes, title, and other fees. it's got 166k miles on it. I only bought it cause the guy in South Haven told me this was a well taken care of Wrangler. Original owner was meticulous and had it serviced on a regular basis. I wanted to take it to my mechanic to look it over and the dealer said there's no need for that. "This is a well maintained vehicle and will give you years of trouble free service". Yeah, SURE!! One month later and less than 700 miles used in 4 high for the first time, wandering all over the road, hard to hold onto and a massive amount of grinding noise.
Oh well, water under the bridge. I'll just have to soak another $4,000 or more into it so that "I" can enjoy driving it.

|PFJ18||Hi my name is Michael & I live in Niles. I am originally from Clovis California, 90 miles south of Yosemite. My Grandfather & dad belonged to 4X4 clubs for my entire childhood, so I spent a lot of time in the Sierra Nevada Mountains on Jeep trails. Although this was many years ago, these were certainly the most memorable years of my life. I never thought I would have the chance to get back into Jeepin but I decided its time to share this with my wife & children. The biggest things that kept me from doing it is living in Niles, Mi and not knowing of any clubs or places to off road. So if you all are serious about building a club I would really like the opportunity to become a part of it. I just purchased a 2010 wrangler with a 2-1/2" lift and 33" tires. This was a huge part of my life growing up & it created a bound with my Grandfather that no one will ever understand. Now that he is gone I want to pass this on to my children & as many other people as possible. Please let me know who I can contact & what I need to do to become a member & how I can help in any way. Thank You, Michael Jones|
