You can get away with a built up 44 running 37s.
But id avise spending the money and getting a Dana 60. But unless you buy a G2 or Dynatrac or Currie youll be either running a much wider axle then the rear or doing alot of custom work.
So if youre going to do a D60, id do 1 ton axles all the way around.

|tallzdatank||agree with Jerry. maybe it will work, maybe you'll be ok running tires that big on an axle that weak. but personally, I would like to be able to have breaking power to stop them, ball joints strong enough to hold then, and KNOW that my u joints, shafts, and ring and pinion gears could take it. better to over build when it comes to axles, if you wheel it at all anyway.|

But its your $$$ if you really want to trust Dana 30 ball joints, C's, brakes (which are NOT up to that big of a tire) etc. with that big and heavy of a tire.

|kylekae||So I talked to a shop in Cumming, ga, TnC off road. They said that on all their shop Jeeps they run 44 on 37s to 40s. He said that the 44 can handle a 37 if its done right. He said I should get rcv axles up front, with the C's gusseted. Then do 5.13 gears. In the rear just put a chromoly shaft and ill be fine. Ill probably do inner sleeves on the front 44 for some strength. He said us the stock lockers till they go, then upgrade to arbs. I already have curried/savvy ultimate steering as well as an upgraded front track bar. What do you guys think.|

|kylekae||I called rokmen today and they say that if you put rcv chromoly axle shafts in the Dana 44 rubi is up to run 37 on difficult trails. Nothing like crazy biggie trails but other difficult trails. He said that if I gear to 5.13, keep the stock lockers till they break. I will be fine. He said that they have know problem with the knuckles either. And if I wanted to I could truss them with trusses from tnt.|

Regardless of the axle shafts you install, the front Dana 44 axle housing is not up to 37" tires. And I don't care what Rokemen does.
The Rubicon's front axle is mostly Dana 30... axle tubes, ball joints, outer stub axke shafts, inner/outer C's, u-joints, steering, brakes, etc. are all pure Dana 30. The only things that are Dana 44 include the R&P, inner axle shaft, and pumpkin housing.

what do you guys think about a built up Dana 44
So my end plan is to run 37s with my Jeep Rubicon Dana 44. I know that it can be done because the guys a rokmen do it. Also it would be lighter and have better clearance than a 60. So currently I have it all stock with some 33s.
I will eventually get some rcv front axles. But that's where mu knowledge ends.
I have read about trusses, upgrading knuckles or bracing the c's. I guess I'm asking what can I do to build to the hilt my Dana 44. Or is it truly worth it and just do a Dana 60.
