Thanks for the info.

Nothing else that I can find with the driveline. No whirs, clanks or clunks....yet.

jgano23 i have a '05 X, 31" x 10.5 x 15, auto trans w/ 2" lift, my rear u-joints went after 50K miles. i upgraded to the spicer joints as well. it now has about 65K miles and no problems w/ the joints or anything else in the drive line. the u joints seem to be a relatively common thing to go. once they are replaced you should be fine. does there seem to be anything else amiss in the drive line?

Jerry Bransford Without a suspension lift where the u-joint angles were not set up properly which would also cause vibrations, that's a pretty unusual short lifespan for u-joints. I'd replace them and not give it much more thought than that. Stick with Spicer, that's the OE brand which has a great reputation. Go with their sealed 5-785x u-joint which is a good durable u-joint that is also stronger than the greasable version some switch to in the belief it's stronger... it's not.

4point Welcome to WF

Mine is an 02 and the u-joints started failing at 70k. But depending on conditions it would not surprise me for one to fail early. Replace them with Spicer units. I did all mine at once figuring that if one failed the others could go at any time.

U-joint replacement at 25K. Opinions please.

Hi everyone, first time poster looking for opinions.

Background:I have had CJ's in the past, recently purchased a 2005 Wrangler X, 24K miles (when purchased), 4.0, manual trans. CarFaxed it, no record of issues or accidents, it looked pristine inside and out. Although original purchase was in PA, it spent most of its life in West Palm Beach FL. Came back to PA where I bought it. Factory suspension, no lift, 31x10.50s on AR alloy wheels. That's it for relavent mods. There was a brand new factory hitch installed, but no wiring and no indication of a draw bar ever being put in the receiver.

Had it 2 weeks before noticing oil, rear main was leaking. Had it 2 months noticed a little noise from the driveline, I inspected it this weekend and found the U-joints on the rear driveshaft need to be replaced.

Opinions, are these common Wrangler issues or are they symptoms of something else?
