jdhallissey Where ya at? We need to make a WF camp ground at oranges place and do him a solid lol. Any jeepers near you to help you figure your issues out?

orange05tj Justa quick update, I got the stock springs back in with 1" spacers, new end links, new trackbar kept the 1" BL and kept the 33's. Took it for a ride down the road, rides 100% better. no wobbeling, banging or anything. Vibes are gone which is nice, but I still need to bring it in for an alignment (I did a half ass one). Maybe after I dont need it as a dd I'll have the lift installed somewhere. Ill try to get pics, but im not supposed to be using this computer cuz it aint mine.

orange05tj Well, its almost back to stock. Damn trackbar held me up, so its just sitting in the barn.

orange05tj I checked that already, no play in ball joints. The links are garbage and so is the track bar

4.0l sahara Okay i would replace the ca's with something like RE or jks. when you have it apprt tale a look at the bushings in the upper ca mounts on the front axle. If worn replace them. Get a good track bar like a JKS. Put the front axle on jacks and grab the tire at 6 and 12 o clock to check for any play in your ball joints. Then grab the tire at 3 and 9 o clock to check for any play in your TRE's and steering links. Also FT sway bar links seem to be cheap get some better ones.

bpowa i dont thin kyuo can chance the bushings on the stock CA.. its best to replace them rather then selling it..IMO.. or just get some stock CA from ebay.. there are tons of them for cheap.

Yeah that needs replaced right away, maybe someone on here has some stock ones taking up space in there garage that they would sell you cheap.

orange05tj yeah, I saw that on Groupbuy earlier, a little out of my league. The rear ones are fine and the front uppers feel solid. Its definitely my front lowers. The driverside is really bad. I can touch it and it moves all around.

orange05tj Alrighty then, tax money came back tonight, wooo hoo, gotta pay off some bills and then Im ordering my parts in the morning. I searching for a set of good control arms, not sure if I should get fixed or adjustable though. My wife is telling me to get black rims because she hates the MT's on it now and still bitches about me selling the black rims I had last year. not sure if Im gonna buy black and sell the MT' s or what. Im hoping to order a swingout carrier bumper too, we'll see what happens. Then I'll be broke again like usuall, still unemployed, but I dont care, as long as the mortgage is paid and the Jeep gets a nice Valentines day present, oh yeah, something for the wife too, lol.

orange05tj Im looking to fix whats wrong with it. Ive narrowed it down to ca's and track bar, I just need to know what to get and how to replace. If I cant fix it, i will go back to stock which I have all the stock parts laying around.

Jerry Bransford Well, the first thing is that you'll have to replace the adjustable trackbar as many aftermarket adjustable length track bars (like mine from Rubicon Express) are too long to fit on an unlifted TJ.

On the control arms, do you have any objection to just going back to stock? The stock arms are actually a pretty good design that flex better than some aftermarket control arms do. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about setting the length.

What I would do is post some "Swap" ads in the various Jeep For Sale/Parts Wanted forums and I'd just about guarantee you'll find people jumping out of the woodwork to swap their factory springs, trackbar and control arms for yours. Probably shocks too if you can verify they're in good shape, since you'll need shorter shocks too. You could likely find some good factory antiswaybar links the same way, just make sure they're from a newer TJ so they're not sloppy/worn out. Hope this helps.

jpdocdave i say order new arms, upgrade. never changed bushings in a tj control arm personally, but i've done control arm bushings, and you can end up damaging new bushings, trying to install them into the control arm.

orange05tj yeah, my brother yelled at me all day about it telling me to fix it. I want to change the control arms or bushings but dont know how or where to begin. I have stock ca's with the 3" lift, + 1" spaver, so I should upgrade. Im gonna order what I need tomorrow, but I need to know what to order.

jpdocdave i at least admire that you aren't selling the jeep like so many weenies do, going back to stock is one way, but i wouldn't do it.

fix the problem, it can be fixed. control arm bushings should not have play. i say fix the problem with the lift, and keep a cool looking jeep cool.

orange05tj I need some help and I know ya'll have the answers I need.
1) The driver side control arm seems loose because I can move it up and down and side to side. The passenger side is not as bad. Is that normal?

2) I had my brother look underneath when I turned the wheel back and forth and he said the track bar moves up and down about 1/2" (the side with the grease fitting, not the axle side).

3) the sway bar links move up and down about 1/4" because the pin is wore down and doesn't hold very well, I believe that the clanging noise I hear when I brake.

What Im wondering is, should I replace the control arm bushings or order new control arms. I have a 3" lift and Im not to good at setting adjustable things because I dont know where or what to adjust to.

I was gonna order JKS discos, are these better (quieter) then the Full Traction ones I have now?


Im pretty sure I torqued the track bar to the specs (45lbs I believe) so what should I do there? Order a better tb and start over or try re-torquing it?

Ive had this front end wobble for a long time wether I had this lift, 2" BB, 3 sets of tires, so its got to be the control arms.

It wobbles in 1st gear really bad and bad vibes till about 3rd, so I was thinking of removing the 1" spacer in the front (used to level off) and putting the stock springs with 2" spacers in the rear. (so 3" springs in front, 2" spacer in back) I never had vibes with the BB before, now its bad even with MML and tcase drop.

sorry for the long post and many questions, I just dont want to get rid of my lift and 33's. Ive wanted a Jeep on 33's for too long and dont want to give it up. Should I order parts and get them installed somewhere?

jpdocdave i'd go aftermarket on the links, parts store. i'd do a quality aftermarket shock out of quadratec, seems like the parts stores shocks, from monroe, kyb, and i can't remember the other brand are kinda crappy, at least the aftermarket names will have a lifetime warranty. sky jackers seem to leak, or rancho, ome or whatever is good on tj's.

Not sure if it is just the track bar, Ive been having problems with this for over a year, I cant keep chasing the problems everytime I drive it.

orange05tj it may be possibly for sale. Pretty much all I be removing will be the coils, because most of it used stock parts less track bar and discos which were garbage anyway.

jpdocdave if you're gonna do it, do it all back to stock, stock track bar and all. kind of a shame if it is just a track bar. i'd also buy new links, since they are a very wearable item, and beating them out will usually make them loose.

jdhallissey I would put everything back to stock. You can leave the adjus. track bar in there and see if it still shimmys and the like. IF it does then you most likely found the culprit. Looking at selling your lift?

Returning back to stock

Im putting the stock suspension back in this weekend and was wondering if I can use my stock sb links. I did beat them out but havent look at them in a while to see if they are reusable. also, should I use my stock track bar or can I use the adj. one I have no (which may or may not be causing all my problems). I need to do this by the first week of March because this Jeep is not very drivable at the moment, unless its supposed to rip the wheel from your hands and throw you across the road on every little bump, and make popping noises on turns and when braking and wobble when letting the clutch out in first and second gear....the list goes on.
