I also added power steering to my '74 CJ-5 as well and could not find brackets anywhere. Ultimately, I made my own brackets with 3/16" steel plate and other scraps. If you can weld or know some one who can it's not too difficult.
Basically build one bracket that mounts to the engine that has a pivot point. Another bracket that mounts to the pump and mounts to the pivot point. Finally, make a third piece that is your adjustment arm. This can be strap steel with a hole drilled in one end and a slot cut running the length of it for adjustment.
Belts are easy to get. After you have fabbed up everything and mounted your alternator and ps pump, run some string around the pulleys, measure, and then go down to the local parts store and tell them the length you need. Should take about a day to make up some brackets.

|MTJeepTJ||I built a 74 cj5 w/258 for my dad. I looked into adding power steering. It had the exact same setup as yours. Power steering was an option 72-75 but was rare and the pump was up high on the passenger side. These pumps or brackets are non existant i called everywhere. The answer i recieved was you have to round up everything off a 76-up cj with a 258 and move the alternator and stuff around. The only other option would be a custom pump on the passenger side that you made the bracket for and ran a belt to it. But a person would be sorta guessing about the pump and belt/pulley set-up.|

Is it me or does your example show a right side drive? making the hoses longer from the PS pump?

Ok so I guess I have my right / left mixed up, but the alt. is mounted on the "drivers side" just below the radiator hose. I have a ton of experence with this year Jeep however all have been with the 304. I have found there are several differences elsewhere throughout the Jeep not just the motor. I have looked at everything I could find but thinking that the PS mounts on the passinger side threw me off I guess. So I will need to find an alt. bracket as well to move it over.. should make things a bit easier really..

The PS pump should be on the left side/drivers side. That way the hoses to the box are shortest. Alternator goes to the right/passenger side.
(R/L sides of a vehicle are determined as when you are sitting in the driver's seat)
Later model brackets should bolt up.
You can use a 3-bolt ps box mount for the 4-bolt ps box... but you will be better off finding the stronger 4-bolt box.

Power Steering Brackets 74
The son in law is having trouble locating the PS brackets for his "new" Jeep. He has a 74 CJ w/6cyl. and really has to have PS. All of the ones we have found are for the right side (drivers) but thinking it actually needs to be for the left side. His alternator is on the lower right and putting a PS above it just won't work. Needs help locating one. Where to go?
