|volfo||So similar issue fir me tonight. 12 jeep wrangler sport 6 speed. 13 ticks. Come out to parking garage and jeep starts to turn over then immediately completely dead. I think that's odd. Did I leave my lights on from getting lunch? I dint think so. So eventually I find a jump. Car starts but brake light is on, abs light, traction control light and dinging noise. Radio goes on and off, interior lights flicker. Start to drive home, speedo not working at all at first then just jumps around from 0 to 30 and back and forth. Get home and put in neutral and rev it a bit and it Seems to be running a little rough. Turn it off and try to restart and completely dead. Turning key dues nothing. No lights at all. Take key out, Make sure lights are off and get out. Notice the parking lights are on dimly and flickering a bit. Double check that everything is off. It is but parking lights still on. Go inside about 20 minutes. Come back to garage and now the headlights are also dimly flickering on and off. This is nota joke. They do this fir 2 or 3 minutes. I open the hood to look at the battery and when I open the hood the lights go off. Everything seems normal. Close the hood, get in car, dome lights turn on, car tries to start but battery just seems to weak. Almost turns over but not quite. Classic weak battery response and completely different than what it was doing before. Weird. Any thoughts? Just a battery? Jeep is 23 months old and 13 miles.|

By the way, I took mine in and they recommended replacing the ABS controller under warranty. I got a printout of the technicians notes after that visit and from what I can tell the issue wasn't resolved after the new controller was installed so they traced the electrical and found corrosion on the wiring near one of my rear speed sensors. They spliced a new one in and all good ever since (apart from the unrelated 3rd heater core that's currently on order.)
Love my Jeep, hate my Chrysler.

|mess0821||I have the same issue with the sway bar light, abs, parking brake light periodically flashing. Less often the fog light flashes. Some of the time the speed drops off and the tac revs. Took in to dealer and it had 13 codes. Have not been able to get the codes from dealer yet. The said it was the truck lite headlights. $100 to put in my oem lights. And that the lights were causing an over voltage, 17 or so.Guess what. Still doing it. I get codes C 2101 .2103 and c123c. Any idea what the last two are? Going in to dealer today.|

|hughmungas||Just traded the 2012 in for a 2014 Rubicon. It is still not fixed and has been in the shop for a month. I wanted a Rubicon anyway, lol.|
|07-30-2013 07:26 AM|
|hughmungas||Update: Mine has been in the shop 3 weeks now and still not fixed. I believe they are going to replace the entire instrument cluster at this point. I'm ready to get rid of this POS.|

|hughmungas||I have a 2012 non-rubicon that is doing the exact same thing. I have a simple 2 inch puck lift and aftermarket bumper and winch. THose have been on it a while with no problems. about 2 weeks prior to it starting to go haywire, I had to take it to the jeep dealership for a squeaking noise . The squeaking was a faulting water pump. Now the trouble lights flash on and off and dinging like a slot machine all the time. The dealer kept it for two days and all they found was a loose connector on the alternator. they reseated it and gave it back to us. It is stilling doing it. I think there mus t be a lose connector or ground due to them conducting maintenance on it. I can't keep giving them my daily driver to keep for days wile they look at it and shrug their shoulders.|

Is anyone experiencing a similar issue who is not driving a lifted Rubi?
My ABS and ESC went haywire last night in my stock 2012 JK:
scottmphoto did the ABS replacement work out for you? Was that the root cause, or did you determine it was in fact a result of your lift mods as sig1492 suggests?

Possible cause and fix
All of the people that I have encountered on the internet with this issue (7+) seem to have made a few of the same modifications on the recent Jeep Rubicon.
I installed a winch, which required a new bumper. This required removing the bumper sub-fascia that covered the Sway Bar disco.
The OP told me that Chrysler has known about a sway bar problem with waterproof-ness for years. Of course Chrysler roadside would absolutely not confirm this... but it lead me to research it, and to my delight, the AAM Smart Bar has had problems, noted all over the internet, for years.
This may be the genesis of the problem as the e-disco smart bar is closley integrated onto the PCM BUS and has a separate computer controller built into the e-disco. This is more safety than functional, as this computer, by taking wheel speed info directly from the wheel speed sensors and PCM info directly as to the gear and 4-wheel drive state, can determine if it is safe to disengage the sway bar. It won't disengage while moving (fail safe), and reengages at speeds over 18 mph as the significant wheel shimmy could cause a critical failure.
So the e-disco has factor inconsistencies with waterproofing. then remove the fascia and expose it to more road splash and there is your problem...
water gets in shorts some part of the Smart Bar computer, bad signals go to the PCM, which then thinks there is a problem, first with the Sway Bar, then with traction control ESP (bad wheel speed info), then ABS (also bad wheel speed), then impossible speed U1412 codes from your OBD-II reader. Dashboard goes crazy, PCM resets, speedo and Tach drop and reset. but no engine problems.
So, I did what anyone would do when 1000 miles from a dealer... I caulked it... seriously, I waited until the unit was dry and sealed aroung the connector with caulk and around the angled electrical joint of the e-disco. Then I open the back of the connector and covered it with liquid electrical tape. There are similar fixes noted around about waterproofing the e-disco.
NO PROBLEMS for 500 miles, rain or shine.
you may also have a secondary P0537 code, brake circuit A high - this may be due to the same water splash issue, but on to the wiring when you moved your Back-Up Brake Booster Vacuum Pump to install the winch mount. Just seal the wiring joint with some shrink wrap tubing, and all is well there...
Many thanks to all that lead me to the light...

I do hav a winch connected to battery. I also got a spod connected to the battery. Nothing else really. Its weird, after my fix at dealer which also included maintanance where they do check battery connections as one of the things they do, the problem only appeared once after and i haven't seen it since. So its not as much as before.
But sway bar light comming up doesn't make sense for me. how was that be affected by a bad connection in teh battery? wouldn't bad connection make all lights on dashboard flash?

Jk flashing Tc lights
With my dealer experience they explained the alternator was hitting 17-18 v and freaking out some of the computers . They said they tightened up the battery ground and magic problem free go 10k miles. I kind feel I was on a snip hunt and magic happen and I shot a jackalope. Magic!!
I had checked the ground to bat before I dropped it off..
My guess is the did some sort of quiet tsb to fix a known problem

|JKTHOMPS||Have you added off road lights or a winch? Curious if you need to have your computer flashed...|
|02-25-2013 09:36 PM|
just a quick update on this from my experience.
Since i have exact same issue as in the video, i took my jeep to dealer and they said it was "bad brake switch". Not sure how its related. 2 parts were replaced... Switch/sensor, brake pedal and Switch-stop lamp.
Lights came back once today so problem not fixed. Its not as often as before. So back to dealer i go.

Hey guys -
Yeah the dealer replaced the entire sway bar actuation assy, as the unit was not properly water sealed, and there was a short. After the fix (1.5 +/- months ago) not a single problem.
I have heard the issue is starting to become more pronounced in the '12s.
|01-22-2013 03:31 PM|
I vaguely remember reading a thread long ago where the same issue was reported as being caused by water getting into places where water shouldn't get into.
Did you do any water-fording anytime recently?
|01-22-2013 02:43 PM|
got the same issue. once i had the lights flicker quickly when i was on red light. weird.
Scott, did you hear back from dealer on it?
|01-18-2013 06:55 PM|
|JKTHOMPS||My 2012 was doing the same thing... turned out my jks quick disconnect on my passenger side lost the cotter pin and was not connected. Put the stock rear sway bar end links on the front and I haven't had any issues. Is yours lifted?|
|12-27-2012 04:46 PM|
|Lucy Brown||isnt this the swaybar disconnect issue. the sensor or servo is getting wet and shorting out.|
|12-27-2012 12:42 PM|
|yandawg||Yeah, let me know also please!!! I have 400 miles on mine and have had it less than two weeks. It hasstarted randomly turning on the abs and ecs lights . Hopefully something is just loose, i had it shipped over here to germany, and i think the closest dealer is a few hours away|
|12-11-2012 12:40 PM|
Same Exact Problem! Swaybar, ding, ABS, Traction Control, Brake, and speedo dip.
And I get a P0537 and a U1412 OBD code sometimes after the lights go off several times. And worse the headlights flicker dim and then back to normal for a few miles.
I am no where near a dealer with mine, let us know what the dealer says.

I have a 12 with 30k on It it just started to do the same thing.
All the grounds were Checked / wiggled the dealer pulled 12 codes and said they could not figure out what was going on...
Does any one have a clear answer yet?

|SilverSport||Sounds like a loose connection. Have it scanned for codes including ABS at an autoparts store or take it to the dealer.|
