MuddyTJ97 Has anyone been in porter lately? Gotta be pretty messy in there with all this rain. Thinking about checking it jot after Christmas.

greenbomber Yea we have had a couple in counters with him when we road quads out there.

MarkGLHS Green Road can get sloppy and full of ruts this time of year until the town comes thru and grades the road (they usually do that in early summer)....but I would not advise going off Green Road on either side, the owner of that land gets pretty ticked off if he sees a motorized anything on his land. If you see a red Chevy pickup truck pulled over to the side, that is usually his look-out.

greenbomber you can go up to green for alittle fun

there's a side trail on porter that will bring you out there also if you sneak past the pond you can pop out in the state forest. not fun to get out of there. never gone straight through porter though since they closed the road.

N1IRB Come to think of it I did see a lot of those funny "blue" trees along the way.
03-05-2013 08:02 PM
MuddyTJ97 Good point.... Just trying to think what trails you took. U must have gone right somewhere.

MuddyTJ97 How did you get from porter to Hopkins on the trail?

N1IRB Cruised from Porter to Hopkins a couple days ago. Not too bad but a little icy in spots.

MuddyTJ97 There is a really short couple mile long dirt road in somers about 5 mins from porter that is good for stock. I've been going there for 10yrs. I've even brought my brand new ram1500 in there. It's just a long straight dirt road with tons of mud. Road get washed out with rain and snow. Huge huge puddles. Ruts get real deep and the sides of the road get supper muddy. Bunch of trails off the sides of the road as well.

Jersey Sahara It's a bit far but up by Rhode Island there is some legal roads that were amazing

Toolin Around Not lately, I am afraid with a stock Jeep and all the snow and rain. Would love to find something easy just for a day trip.

MuddyTJ97 Bumb.... Anyone check out porter or any other roads around?
01-31-2013 12:13 PM
MuddyTJ97 On another note when I was leaving saw a nice red lifted 4 door pulling in. Wonder if from here

Tiki Dave If either of you are going out this weekend to explore more and want company, let me know. I'm always up for some adventure.

MuddyTJ97 So heading in it was on your right, then u turned aroundnwnd it was on your left? If so I was up there cool little trail. Thatsvherebthey we're skidding logs the other day
01-30-2013 08:52 PM
Toolin Around I don't think I made it that far. When I turned there was a trail over a large incline on my left.
01-30-2013 08:20 PM
MuddyTJ97 I'm guessing it was that big area where u can go left or right. Left keeps you on porter and right goes up a hill I believe. It's almost like a culdasac.
01-30-2013 08:13 PM
Toolin Around I guess about 1/2 mile. It was dark and I saw a place to turn around and was afraid if I went farther I may not be able to turn around. I would like to try it in the daylight.
01-30-2013 06:22 PM
MuddyTJ97 How far you get?
01-30-2013 06:02 PM
Toolin Around I checked it out tonight. Pretty cool! I didn't go far because I have never taken this Jeep off road and would like to do it with some others in case I get stuck. Would like to explore more if you go again.

MuddyTJ97 Porter rd itself is a bust. Only goes few thousand feet then ends at private property sign. The trails off it are tons of fun. They are also marked trails but not sure where they go. Shenipsit forest rd is blocked off at both ends as is porter off Webster. Anyone know bout the trails off porter? They go forever and get better and better. Saw someone in a orange jk on porter said rides his quad in there but not his jeep.

Toolin Around I have done some ATVing around there. I just bought my first Jeep, a 2008 Rubicon. Would love to try some easy trails first because it is stock and I have only been off road on ATVs. Let me know when you are going. I live in Ellington.

MuddyTJ97 Didn't do much of anything today. Still have this stomach bug. Probably going Tuesday mid morning to check out few places over there. I'll try to remember to take pics.
