This is true...I've seen many times where Autozone reads a code and sells that part...In my area O2 sensor codes seem popular...O2 stuck rich? Replace it....What alot of people don't realize is a code is simply that the engine computer doesn't like a particular reading...it does not mean that particular part is bad...I mean, install a new O2 sensor but don't plug it in...It'll throw a code...Does that mean the sensor is bad?...No, it means the computer doesn't like the readings...

Probably does, but if a ASE Master Tech is diagnosing a problem and his paid allotted time to diagnose it runs out, he starts throwing parts at it. You would wish he wouldn't but he can't make money working for free trying to diagnose the problem.

Just tried this on my 98se. Worked but didnt display any codes. Still want to get an actual reader tho.

RevCo666 I had purchased a bluetooth OBD2 elm reader off the internet a few years ago, never got it to work, tried with laptop and Android tablet. Not sure if was because my 2001 Mazda truck was not compatible or not? Unfortunately a quick item to pond Maybe someone else can make it work... Cabled version are extremely reliable, I may reinvest in one soon just for the sakes of owning one.

Sounds like a pretty silly law.. As for the ignition on and off trick, I completely for got about that. I use my code reader for everything. Great little investment, everyone should own one...

Eddie2005unlimited I read a thread that I think said that this was caused by pumping the gas pump multiple times to fill up.

Is that true? Because I definitely have been doing that.

Or do I need to replace the O2 sensor ?

Dextreme A few years ago I bought one of these scanners and I probably use it a dozen times a year on my vehicles (mostly on my diesel truck that is chipped) and friends vehicles to read and clear codes. Worth the $60 alone to not have to work with Autozone bozo's.

monkeee2002 My local autozone still checks codes.
They won't "clear the codes" for you anymore, some kind of company policy I guess. But he let me borrow his code reader while he had it hooked up, so I could clear them myself

Jerry Bransford Yep turn your ignition switch on-off-on three times within 5 seconds & then leave it on. Give it time & it will then display any diagnostic trouble codes that are stored. If you do it right it will always at least display the word Done.

This works for all TJs except 98-00.

(do not start )

Should give you CEL codes on your odometer display... then research codes via PC....

Curro Advance Auto will still check codes. and pulling a code can definitely point you in the right direction of a problem....

They said to only way to be sure is to take it and get it professionally scanned? Is this true? I want to fix the problem and get the light off .
