|2000TJMan||Well i gave it a shot putting the clutch in while shifting from 2WD to 4H and the nosie is still there.....I may try changing the tranny and transfer case fluid...normally I'd do this myself but I'll have the mech do it to take a peek while in there. I'm new to this town and I hope he doesn't try to rip me off...|

|tallzdatank||probably will need some new pieces and you'll have to take the whole case apart.|

I'll try that on the way home....if that is the problem is aligning the transfer case a big job?

|tallzdatank||have you tried pressing the clutch and shifting? does it still make the noise? it sounds like the transfer case isn't lining up correctly.|

Weird noise when shifting to 4X4 on the fly...
Hello everyone....I'm brand new to the TJ club. Purchased my 2000 Jeep TJ 4.0 Standard....a week ago and drove it close to 1300 KM to get it home. I've been after a jeep and I'm really looking forward to get my hands dirty!
Overall good buy. It has 121 000Km on it and no leaks whatsoever. Little issues but what is worrying me is the sound I hear when I shift from 2WD to 4H on the fly (under 55mph). There is a weird, whining-chain sound that only gets louder the faster I go. I shift it into nutural and it is still there...I shift back down to 2WD and its still there....only when I come to a complete stop and shift it to 4H does it not produce this sound...... the jeep has a 4.5 inch lift kit which may be affecting something. I drove it for a few hours (winter storm lots of snow on the road) with this noise until I realized what makes it go away . I hope i didn't damage anything.
