MrMollusk Cool, thanks for the heads up. I'll check with my local dealer about the TSB on my lunch hour today.

kik The 07 & 08's are covered under a TSB and will then have a lifetime warranty. Some later JK models have the fuel spill problem. A few years ago they started to replace tanks for the 08's, now the fix is to replace the fuel fill tube with an updated re-design. Some dealers should check the updated TSB's before charging customers to replace tanks, unless their purpose is to charge the max for a fix which we all know they would never do. If you have an 07 or 08 the dealer must repair it, no charge. The dealer I do business with replaced the fill tube on my 10 over 6 months ago as "good will", no charge, and gas hasn't spit out since. I don't think too many dealers on later models will fix it for free but no one should be paying for a new tank when according to Chrysler the problem is the fill tube.

MrMollusk Same problem, 07' JKU. The first time the pump "clicks" gas spews out everwhere. It's really lame. So I figure out how much fuel the tank will take and pump out only that much. I haven't spilled fuel in a while.

I just estimate that the tank is 20 gals (to make the est. easier) and if it's a quarter tank full only pump out 15 gallons. It would be better if I could just fill the thing up!

SteedGun With my 2010 Rubicon they denied they had a problem with this at first then they replaced my tank but charged me $100 as it was past factory warranty. Yes, they have a gas tank problem in the 2010s for sure.

This is NOT because someone is trying to force too much gas in the tank it is a defect and you need to get it fixed. On a few occasions mine tossed so much gas out at me I was afraid of a big fire and disaster. Get it fixed folks, don't mess with gas.

Jeep Pete If have the same issue with my 2007. It doesn't happen every time though, it's sporadic. Weird.

Seginus I had the issue on my 2011 BUT they did not replace the tank. It was just a hose or neck or something that was replaced. Fixed it right up.

dcowboy72 I have an aftermarket warranty the dealer sold me . I have a 100 dollar deductible so maybe I will call them and see what happens.

JK.Claws Nope cost $280 for the tank alone or $618 installed.

gas

this just happened to me yesterday. i filled it all the way by hand until it clicked, but as soon as i pulled the nozzle back alot of gas came pouring out not just a couple of ounces either very frustrating. 2010 with 54 thousand miles first time it happened. im betting they wouldnt fix it for free after warranty is up.

JK.Claws Took it to the dealership and sure enough they say I need a new tank because of that valve.

JK.Claws I have a 2011 and have the same problem. It didn't start until around 45000 mile mark.

This is what happens. No matter if holding if by hand or using the little latch on the pump to fill until full. It will shut off, then come running down the sides. 2010 here too, has happened quite a few times but have noticed that it is dependent on the gas station.

You'll likely need to go in twice, once to explain and set up appointment for the actual replacement.
