jeeps&comics glad to have ya here on the forum... i have a 94 myself. I'd say as far as bikini tops go, its all about Bestop. They have the best quality tops IMO...

mmohorovich It sounds like a 4" is the way to go. I've got some time before I make my mind up and I plan on doing more research. Do you guys have any recommendations for a Bikini top in the summer? The hard top is the only thing that I have now.

Felsengleiskette not to mooch on yer thread,... but K.T where in michigan you at? now back to the topic at hand...how much can you sink into it right offthe git??? (meaning, enough to achieve your lift and get rolling again, then do therest ovr a period of time.)...grr im on a laptop,and making typing errors!

Felsengleiskette for what kits to buy i'd say (just my opinion) from best to worse (in a smaller budget selection):rubicon express,skyjacker,fabtech,rough country<-the new ones,then any other budget priced lift kit. typically found in quadratec. there are better (far better) lifts out there but in the real world of the dollar challenged...these are fine. i went w/ the skyjacker 4" and the kit did not come w/ trans drop,pitman arm,brake line ext. but i AM happy w/ its performance. quiet,descent flex, well built (im in michigan so it goes through some nasty/foul messes.)the RE kit is better, and more complete but was just out of my budget at the time(i had alot of other purchases at same time) again dollar challenged.so if you can get the RE kit. and im NOT happy w/ my MT claw radials 33's. the rubber is way to soft for anything that sees street to much.

Felsengleiskette daily drivers do better w/ a 4" lift than a 6" lift. plus tons of other things to address going to a 6". for just a trail ride, and a little crazy stuff i'd go w/ 4" lift 30-33" tires SUA<-(mainly so you dont have to deal w/ eliminating axle wrap and axle angles.) go shackle reversal if your budget allows it (or change it down the road.) bare in mind any lift over 2" and other components need changed as well. like : pitman arm/brake lines lower skid plate/shocks/blah, blah. note: not all lift kits come complete w/ everything you need, so do some homework. ALSO when going sua...bigger the lift, harder the springs so a six inch sua is going to ride real stiff. if you want 6" i say go 2" lift and spring it over. but again, going spring over needs other mods to help stabilize the configuration (axle wrap). w/ the six you got a good/better trans than the ax5 and i like the motor so, you can leave that alone. what gears in the axles? stock most likly and can push 30- 33's. the axles suck, but for a trail rider dont worry about them. for all new kits/components to achieve 4" lift w/ purchase of new rubber and wheels, you're lookin at about 4k<with you doin the work. 6"soa is about 5.5-6.5k<you doin the work and good fab skills.axle mods/suspension mod(anti-wrap)strongly advise to shackle reversal in a soa.

mmohorovich obviously skill is a huge factor, but are there some general guide lines to what different lifts can do? Is a 6" lift overkill for a commuter Jeep that loves the trail? What do most Jeepers have on theirs? What is average?

distortedtj Start out wheeling it stock. You'll be amazed what it can do. Then see what needs improved to suit your wheeling needs / wants.

mmohorovich This is going to be a long term project, 10+ years. It's currently my only transportation, but I want to trail ride with it, do some climbing, mudding, but nothing too crazy or aggressive.

Must have's..... MONEY...and a good set of torx bits.

Suspension..... custom long arm with coil overs and stretched wheel base.

But that ^^^^^^^ suspension isn't for all.

The suspension for "YOU" depends on your end goal of "YOUR" jeep. First decide that. Then start building. Lot of it depends on your budget, skills and determination.

New Guy checking in with a 94'

Just checking into the YJ forum. I just bought a 94' 4.0. It's ready for a lift and a few extra toys. It's my first Jeep and I hope to build it up right!!! Any suggestions on "must haves" or extras that I won't be able to live without? If you were going to put one lift on and never change it, what would it be?
