Hendogg I am thinking it was just a bad filter. Cause I changed it out with anther new one and seems to not be leaking now.. Or at lest not at the moment..

Goofyjumper The three filters all share the same thread and seal mating size, but are different physical sizes. Should be different length filters. Short, Medium, and Large. If you are changing oil on a regular 3,000 mile or less schedule, it shouldn't matter which one you use. On mine, I change every 1,000 miles, but it is used almost exclusively for trail riding.

Hendogg So Goofyjumper why does it call for 3 different oil filters for the 304 and 360's do you know??

Hendogg I was kind of thinking maybe I got a bad filter from FRAM and that the old one mite just be that old.. Cause it ran fine the 120 miles home that I drove it and had around 25 psi idling and around 50 driven down the road. I bought it, drove it home and did a oil change and a full tune up and as soon as I started it is when it broke the oil gauge. I put a new oil gauge in and it is back at the 25 psi when Idling.. It just drips oil. I may go get a new STP filter and try it and see what happens.. I just thought I would ask since when I looked up the filter From Fram I got 3 different part numbers.. A PH11, PH25, PH3675 and all say they fit the 304 and 360 motors. That's what makes me Scratch my Head..

Goofyjumper The 304, 360, and 401 all use the same oil pump and filter. You should take off the oil pump assembly and check to see if it is clogged or needs to be rebuilt. This is VERY easy to do. Morris 4x4, Summit Racing, and several other auto parts supplies sell rebuild kits and there are a few internet sites that explain the process.

I rebuilt mine last year and it only took a couple of hours. You may also need to run a cleaning solution, like sea foam or other engine cleaner, thru the engine to clean any galley ways and such as if they have gotten plugged this will cause excessive oil pressure. When you do this, put it in the engine, run the engine for a little bit, (revving as needed, but don't drive it any where) let it sit, and repeat. Then drain all the oil and replace with new oil.

You also may consider dropping the oill pan and checking the crank shaft bearings to see if they have been getting oiled properly.

Hendogg When I look on the Morris 4x4 Jeep site that sales parts they have 3 different Oil pump covers that fit the 304 and the 360's or so it says.. So do they take different oil filters? Or do they all take the same one??? And when I go to Fram web site and put in STP S25 it pulls up 2 different oil filters the PH11 and PH25..

HELP V8 Oil Filter problems!!!

Hi All.. New guy here.. Just have a few questions about my 1974 CJ5 Renegade.. Well my 1st question is I about a oil filter..

What I want to tell you about the jeep is I bought it a few months back and drove it home like 120 miles with no problems at all.
Got it home and did a full tune up on her.. Like plug's, wire's, cap, rotor bug, points, oil, and a new oil filter, Well as soon as I started it up sounded grate for about 3 mins and made a load pop and started leaking oil from the oil filter and blow out the seal at the filter and messed up the manual oil psi gauge buy making it hit 120 psi and trying to brake off the needle... So we killed it and checked the oil filter, pulled it off and tried it again and did the same thing Frame PH25 buy the book that's what it takes. So we took it off and put the STP S25 back on it that was on it that drove 120 miles home with no problems and it stopped leaking for about 5 mins and then it started dripping oil when Idling. I am trying to find out if they made different oil filter housings for the V8 AMC motors that I am messing???? Did they make different oil filters for the Jeep V8's???

Any and all help would be so grate.. I just don't really know what to do now..
