|deepair3||I know I am going to be outvoted here... But I am running 35s on stock D35 and I so far have not had any issues. I am still a novice. But the advice I was given was to wait til it breaks then replace. But I am constantly looking for a " Deal " on a D44 or 8.8. Just my $.02.|

|Hancock10||Thank you all for the input. one last question......In your guys' opinion,,,do i need to upgrade NOW.?...the tires i have running measure exactly 33". is the danger high that i could brake while driving the road? Am i safe to do minimal off roading?|

|4Jeepn||I would pass on the CJ5 axle. Instead go with a ford 8.8 from a 96 to 2000ish explorer or moutainerr. I will guess with your 2.5 you have 4.10/11 gears, the 8.8 can be found with that, saving you the money for a gear swap in the CJ5 axle. Also you get disk brakes, and the correct bolt pattern. You will have to have some new perches welded on, but same with the CJ axle. Many 8.8's can be found for under $200 in a junkyard.|

|bangingears||I dont note know directly off hand but id imagine its close to 2-3 inches a side to come equal w what u already have. The narrow tracks r suuuupeer narrow in relation to yjs|

|Hancock10||How much of spacers?....i found some with half inch for $25 for all four?....too little? other than that is it just a straight swap of rears? do i need to do welding of any sort?|

|tigerblood||the d44 from a cj5 is more narrow than your stock d35, i'd look for something else. If you are set on it though, you could add wheel spacers and widen it out a little.|

Dana 44 help
Heres the scenario, i just purchased some used 35 tires, and "wanting" (more because i have to) to upgrade rear axle. I was running the stock axles. I searched on Craigslist and found a "A cj5 rear dana 44 housing and axle shafts" for $200. is this all i need? do i need to make additional purchases? (More of a DD than a rock crawler so lockers aren't needed.).....just true essentials? is this a good deal?.....if i do make the purchase is it a difficult task? Do i need to get a mechanic? This is my first jeep so i for asking too many questions.
I have a 4cyl 2.5. 4inch lift or so.
