I went today and the trail and max patch were completely open. The trail was great. All the snow was gone from the trail and no ice. I was able to complete the trail in about two hours solo. fair amount of mud from the rain earlier in the week.

Max Patch had some snow. The vandalism was a long run to the top. It seemed like it would be fixed pretty easily over the next few weeks through erosion and grass growth. There are some ruts, but it's mostly torn grass. Great views from up there.

corigirlloves Awesome, great turn out. We're going to get some trail runs planned and I'll keep you updated!

Max Patch Vandalism
02-08-2013 10:19 PM
corigirlloves Yes. Max patch. When you exit hurricane creek, max patch is less than 5 miles away, you actually exit onto max patch road and of course the vandals had to have been some sort of 4x4 so a lot of us wheelers have been planning donations and help trips on nc4x4.com to try and get our foot in the door as good people and keep hurricane creek open

WhiskeyMike I hadn't heard it happened, but some googling found this - Vandals strike popular North Carolina mountain vista | wbir.com

Is that what you mean? Couldn't find anything else on the subject.

I went two weeks ago and started at 1 and was out at 4:30. I think I turned around about a 1/2 mile short of the peak because of a big rock that I didn't want to try alone.

I'm all set with my schedule and can definitely go Sat and/or Sunday.

corigirlloves With mud and difficulties in the snow. We didnt stop much but some trees were in the middle of the trail that had to be cleared out and slick rocks. But it might not be too bad since its so sunny out recently

WhiskeyMike Gimp, I'll tentatively go to Hurricane earlier in the day. My Mother is currently waiting for a date for some surgery. If it's not scheduled till next week, I'll be free. Should know for sure by Thursday. What time would you like to meet? If you don't know where it starts, we could meet at the rest stop on I-40 westbound at about mile marker 10-12(?) since the entrance for HC is at 8. Or I'm game for a store or business close by as well. Let me know.
