RedBird2 Here's another option that may work for you. Drop you VIN number into the field on this web site and see if you window sticker comes up.
Use your VIN number to get Jeep Window Sticker

If you have stock wheel and tires and hit ~2300 rpm @ 70 MPH then you likely have the 3.73.
In 2010 if you ordered the "Max Tow package" it would force the change on the build sheet to 3.73. If the vehicle build already had 3.73's then you could chose the "Tow Package" and add just that. Either way, if it had a towing package it would have 3.73's almost every time except.... If it had 4.10's you also would just add the "tow Package" to complete it.

This is the way I have seen it explained.

Either one would be 3.73's, 4 prong wiring, 2" receiver and the sway control program.

Mine appears to have been ordered as 3.73's with Auto transmission and then "Tow Package" was added to complete the set. My build sheet list them that way. And later in the list the Limited slip rear shows up as well.

But I found all this for certain by going to the Owners site, creating a profile with the VIN number and then I could see the original build configuration and options.

X2...Request your build sheet. It will provide a lot of info. I requested mine, they sent it to me within a matter of hours. Jeep is very responsive.

Chrimbler Or you could jack up the back end, rotate the tires one time and count how many times the drive shaft rotates. A little over 3 times = 3.12, a little under 4 times = =3.73

nycenglish My 2012 Altitude came with max tow which meant 3.73. The window sticker should show both max tow and clearly state 3.73 gearing.

What Gears Do I Have? Tow Package?

Technical question here - how can you tell which gearing a JKU has if I don't have the build sheet / window sticker? My understanding is that if it has the "Max Tow Package", good chance you've got the 3.73 gears, but is that always the case? Somewhat confusing as well, as just because it has a trailer hitch doesn't mean it has the "Max Tow Package", right? Are there any other visible signs to know if you have the "Max Tow Package" or the 3.73 gears?
