simpsonsdotcom Do you think you can pick one up at a local junk yard?
How much do you think it would be?

jpdocdave for that to be obd2 compliant you should just buy a factory ecm for it. it will need the obd2 connector under the dash, it will have to function when plugged in to. you will also need every sensor and wire off the donor motor, including oxygen sensors, and the check engine light has to function, and not have any codes present. some states the ecm has to be programmed to reflect the vehicle it is in. the inspection site will plug in, and in some states if the ecm says chevy truck, and its in a jeep, you fail. it is no easy task these days.

in my state pre 96 vehicles do not get inspected, thats why i'm happy with my yj.

engine swap to 5.3 vortec w/o computer

I am going to do an engine swap from 97 Wrangler 2.5L to Chevy 5.3L Vortec. The engine I found is out of a 2000 Chevy Tahoe and has 64,000 miles. It has everything but computer. I have two questions...

I live in NY and to be able to pass NYS inspections the engine has to be OBDII. Since the engine does not come with the computer does any one know if there is a way to still be OBDII compliant? Maybe a painless system that can bypass the computer? Or do you think I will have to fine a computer?

Also what do you think a fair price is for the engine with accessories like power steering pump, alternator, water pump, starter. Basically it's complete, but without the computer
