I don't think I'd camp out overnight outside of a campground, unless it was a large group with dogs and firearms. There's some odd folks in them woods.

crafty The south end of the FL4wd trail does extend down towards the area you are speaking of. South of the bombing range in Ocala forest. Might be an entrance to it nearby.

Steeljag Will do Ddog ! I'm heading over to the beach and speedway this weekend, so no Jeeping for me.

Crafty thanks for the directions.....that's west far for me. I'm looking on the east side of the Forest near sr40 / 19 / 42, etc.

Over the years I have seen groups of jeeps meeting at the store in Altoona while I was out on my bike.......there has got to be some decent trails out in that area !

damndirtydog Regarding trash on the trails around Ocala. There are people who party and camp out there that leave their crap plus some homeless people who might have a little shanty camp and then leave mattress' and garbage laying around. I would doubt that jeepers and ATV riders are leaving that much garbage.
Steeljag, I haven't found any trails that were worthy of a moderate difficulty designation out in that area. Should you stumble across any, let me know. Most are just easy fun stuff, unless it's been raining heavily, that kicks it up a notch.

**Going to wheel Ocala on Sunday. If anyone else is and would like some company, PM me.
Should be a clear crisp day.

crafty It is after you cross into the Ocala Forest. East of I-75

Steeljag Thanks for the info. I'll be looking for it ! East or West of 19 ? I'm gonna google earth it.

crafty Hard to miss. Along 40 look for a wide two lane stretch of dirt road running north and south. You will also see an info board in the right lane to the right side. I highly recommend you don't go alone with only 1 vehicle. Never know when you might need help.

tabber02 off of state road 40.

Steeljag Thanks for the info........Is pipeline road off of 40? Or 19 ?

crafty There are trails north and south of 40 in Ocala. Turn right at the pipeline road and you can see a Kiosk (sp) that has a rough map of the trails. You can stick with wide open dirt roads or tight trails that will give you plenty of custom pinstriping. Only rope swing I know is in Richloam but so dry out there it's just hanging over dirt right now.

Atleast once a year I try and do a trail cleanup run but it barely makes a dent.

Ocala East trails

I had the day to myself yesterday (wife shopping in Orlando), so the dog and I loaded up and drove over to Ocala. We ( Dog and I) explored a trail I have passed a thousand times on my Harley, and always said, one day I'm gonna see what's down there. The trail entrance in just west of Alexander springs.

The trail was uneventful, some soft area requiring 4 wheel drive, a few washout areas that are now dry. It was extremely quite, so nice, however we did pass two gentleman on M/C's who smiled and waived as they passed.

We stopped at a lake for a break, my dog enjoyed the heck out of the lake so much so I could not tell him no, the Jeeps been dirty before. As I relaxed and enjoyed the quite, i could not help but notice the trash left behind by others. I used a plastic grocery bag I had and picked what I could....needed a hefty bag. My thought is these areas are mostly visited by off road capable vehicles, and why would people travel to these out of the way places to enjoy nature and then leave their trash ?

We left that area, worked our way back out to the hard top and headed to the store in Altoona. After some fresh water for him, we headed north on 19 to 40, then west on 40 to a forestry road just past Juniper springs. We drove the forestry roads for about an hour and a half, again extremely quite, passing only one hiker. We eventually came upon a group of vehicles ( I thought I was in the middle of no where, lol) who had parked and hiked to a place known as Pats Island. I continued east and ended up back on the hard top of Hwy 19. It was a nice relaxing drive out there, but again there were items tossed out of vehicles along the forest roads that just pisses me off. Had I not tossed my bag out out the store earlier, I would have grabbed some more. I just kills me that people travel out to these areas and then throw their garbage out the window.

Anyway, can anyone tell me where I can locate some nice jeep trails on the east side of Ocala ? I'm not a hard core off roader, a medium difficultly trail with nice views is good for me. I read on a post here where people stop at a lake somewhere out there where there is a rope swing?? Give me an idea of the jeep trail entrance locations, and I'll find it !

I would remind people to pick up there trash, but I don't think those uneducated rats use this forum .....or can read.
