Desert Scorpion So i was wrong on the numbers. the book says to gap .032 to .038 and i gapped .034. but anyways i started pulling plugs and regapping to .035 and found that plug number four was completely smashed down to zero gap. im in the process of regapping the rest as we speak but does anyone know how that happened???? brand new outa the box they had a .032 gap. just don't understand how it got smashed...

I think i might just pull all the plugs today and re gap all of them just to make sure they are gapped right. my book told me .033 to .040 and the old plugs were gapped to .040 and the new ones i gapped were at .034 so im gonna gap them closer to .040 see if that helps.

Skyhawk I had a similar problem it ended up being the number six plug that I replaced was gapped wrong changed it with a new one problem solved

Desert Scorpion Should be i did everything one at a time to make sure all the wires went to the exact same place.

My Jeep is being wierd

I have an 89' sahara yj 6 cyl. 4.2L T. and long story short my engine started to run a little rough and wouldn't start without pumping the gas a bunch. so i decided to replace the distributor cap, rotor, and new spark plugs. now its running even rougher and sounds like there is a definite miss fire some where. so i started pulling plug wires trying to find it until i "shockingly" noticed that every time i pull a spark plug wire the coil wire would arc out every where from the top of the coil until i would plug the wire back in. so i went to the local napa and asked for some ideas and he had told me that i needed to replace the spark plug wires so i did. now the engine starts without pumping a ton of gas through it and idles close to perfect. but as soon as i give it gas or start driving the miss fire is really very noticeable in noise, feel, and loss of power. could the coil, distributor< or something else need to be replaced? or could i have gapped a spark plug wrong or install one crooked? any ideas help!
