|Brian06||I am having a similar issue. I have already replaced the Coil, Spark Plugs and Spark Plug Wires. I thought the problem may be with the #1 plug wire not being long enough in the head. How did you correct the carbon issue?|

|Frozenstar||Well I got my jeep fix finally! I've been trying to figure it out for 6 months. I took my jeep to a mechanic the other day and he hooked his computer up to the jeep and said all my fuel/air ratios were fine so it wasn't any of the after market stuff on the intake. He then noticed on the computer that the #1 cylinder and #3 cylinder was miss firing but i never had an engine light come on my dash and yes the light does work. So then he took my spark plugs out and the problem was carbon tracking on the #1 cylinder and #3 cylinder and apparently that is caused by the plug wire boot not properly seated on the spark plug.|

|jeep-creep||Coil packs, plugs, o2 sensor or bad cat converter. Places to start. I've had a bad cat converter without throwing a code.|

@tallzdatank: I ran 87 octane before 93 the the problem is not as bad but its still there and are you talking about the wires that go from the spark plugs into the coil pack?

Engine problem help!!
Hey guys i have a engine problem with my 2004 jeep wrangler TJ 2.4L. When i get on the throttle to speed up from a very slow speed my engine starts to spit and sputter and then backfire and then it'll finally get back in to proper firing sequence. I have ruled out a couple of things like vacuum leak, fuel pressure, and fuel filter (because this model only has a mesh sock for a fuel filter in the gas tank that cannot be replaced). I have been running 93 octane. It seems to do the spitting and sputter and backfiring more prominent when the engine is running at 195F. I have an airaid cold air intake and a taylor made helix throttle body spacer on my 2.4. Those are the only things done to my engine. I have a rough country 3.25" suspension lift and running 33 x 12.20 BFG KM2s. The engine had a tune up almost a year ago and everything was replaced with brand new stock wires and spark plugs. The computer is not throwing a code on my dash so i have no clue to what the problem is. I was thinking i could have a hair line crack in my coil pack or something is wrong with the computer. Please help me to figure what my problem is with my jeep. Thank you!
